Used
Not the same as advertised. Different cover, came opened with a used up code. Disappointing.

Good Deal
Instead of waiting several more years for EA to heavily discount the "extortion packs" for the Sims 4. I bought this and it was worth it at 60% off. Just dropped the code into origin and we be jammin.

Meh
Boring. With most of the sims upgrades you get alot of new action, but this really only gives you new careers and some new clothing/housing items. The island is clearly a very cool change, but the actions are not very exciting. I was fine with the purchase because I bought the dvd/cd and it came with a digital redemption inside, so it was half the price for waiting for the shipping time. I definitely am glad I did not pay the full $40.

Super fun, but like all EA games it could use some patches.
I have spent hours playing this thing so far. I'll divide the review into what I consider to be pros and cons. Please consider it SPOILERS if you don't want to now about the mechanics and features.PROS:•Mermaids are gorgeous, have bodies that you can custom as separate from their human form, and it is easy to convert a Sim into a MerSim. Also, their hydration mechanic can be satisfied by a shower or bath, so it is easy to fulfill.•There are lots of build customizations with traditional Polynesian influence, and they look really nice.•The new map includes the "Off-the-Grid" lot trait, which is a good challenge for any players looking for one. "Volcanic Activity" as a trait is not as devastating as I thought, which is actually pretty good, and it's a really good lot trait for collector Sims.•It's really pretty, and has three areas your Sims can choose from to live in.•More outdoor activities, and a suntan mechanic. You can also play pranks on sims that are suntanning, which I love. You can make a traditional BBQ pit, there are fish traps, and you can interact with the island in a variety of fun ways. (Woohoo in the waterfall is my favorite.)•The see-through flooring is awesome, it's called "Crystal Clear". I'm putting in these little floor windows EVERYWHERE.•Kava parties are a hoot.CONS:•There are very few unoccupied lots to choose from. Even fewer if you don't want the ocean to take up half the lot. The new map is actually pretty tiny, but that fits with the considerable community downsizing Sims 4 has implemented. I am not a fan of booting NPC's out of their homes, especially when there is such an emphasis in this pack for "Island Living", including forging relationships with the native island sims. It feels like I'm deleting relationships the game wants me to explore.•Becoming accepted by the Island Spirits is a complete pain in the butt. My Sims only ever had negative moodlets, even after cleaning up all of Sulani, after communing with them. You have to attend (nearly daily) events in town to satisfy their judgement that you are a part of the island community, but these events are not announced like seasonal events. A patch to trigger announcements would be good. Even after attending them for days, the island spirits still are disappointed in my sims.•Fishing spots and buoys are really far away from most residences on Mauna Loa. My sims frequently show up late to work because I had them diving or fishing and they have to swim back to an official lot to leave.•Sims tend to ditch and forget the boats and canoes. You can travel faster, as long as you make sure they pick it back up and don't leave it stranded in a bay somewhere.•Events sometimes don't happen. One of the perks of cleaning up Sulani is getting to see the baby sea turtles. My sims live adjacent to the sea turtle beach, have gotten the announcement that the sea turtles will soon come twice, and yet...the event never triggered. There needs to be a patch to make it happen consistently.•This is more of a personal thing, but other than the shelves and the glass flooring, I wasn't super excited about the island themed furniture. The couches and beds are particularly generic. We could have used a hammock.•I had to build a location where my off-the-grid Sim could use a computer, because there were no community lots with computers. Their job required research, which they could only perform it when not at home (off the grid has no electricity). Off-the-grid also has no showers that are satisfying for Sims. They get negative moodlets from them all the time.•The island fruit trees are hard to spot. I had to buy my tropical fruit from a vending machine to start a garden.•I personally don't find any of the lifetime rewards you can purchase worth it. In Sims 3, you could buy a collection helper. You could buy a teleportation pad. You could buy a Moodlet controlling device. With the Ambitions pack, you could buy a robot friend! In Sims 4, the best perks are like, the ones where they never sleep or never get hungry. Which would be okay, I guess. But they're pretty generic. This pack did not include any fun island lifetime rewards. I would have really enjoyed purchasing the ability to become an Island Spirit in death, for example. All around, pretty good! There are just some tweaks that need to be made.
