Great Value Alternative
### An Interesting Unison Alternative: Mungyo Gallery Professional Soft PastelsI recently purchased the Mungyo Gallery Professional Soft Pastels set of 30:Pros:- Diverse Colors: A wide range of vibrant colors that provide rich coverage.- Texture: Similar to Unison, they glide smoothly across Canson 500 series charcoal paper, Art Spectrum Colorfix Pastel paper, and UART 500 pastel paper, making blending and layering easy.- Ease of Use: Easy to handle and remove the paper cover; can be broken in half for detailed work without significant loss.- Affordable Quality: Comparable to high-end brands, these pastels are softer than machine-made ones but slightly harder than premium brands, offering great versatility.Cons:- Availability and Delivery: Harder to find than other brands, but Amazon offers the best price.- Detail Work: Achieving fine details can be challenging depending on skill level, which is more a characteristic of the medium than the brand.Overall, Mungyo Gallery Soft Pastels are a fantastic option for both beginners and experienced artists seeking high-quality pastels at an affordable price. Don’t let cost be a barrier to this wonderful medium. Highly recommended!

These pastes are affordable, there's nothing cheap about them.
I've wanted to try handmade soft pastels for so long but the price always made me pause. I know myself and if I brought pastels that were really expensive I never would have used them. I would have saved them for the right project or waited until my skills were on par with the quality of the pastels. Which is a waste, what's the point of buying art supplies if they're too precious to use. So when I saw these hand-rolled Artist quality pastels in a youtube video I knew I had to try them. These pastels are affordable, there is nothing cheap about them!I've worked with oil pastels and machine-made soft pastels. These pastels are easy to blend and buttery soft. The color applies smoothly to the paper they're very easy to work with. The color is vibrant and the pastels are highly pigmented. I didn't get a lot of dust and when I opened my sketchbook the next day the transfer on the opposite page was minimal. I haven't used any other brands but these pastels behave exactly as I hoped and expected handmade pastels would. I cannot say enough good things about Mungyo Gallery. I'm going to buy their artist oil pastels next. If you're on the fence, I'd suggest you go ahead and buy them. I'm so happy I did. The set of 30 is a good amount but if you can afford a larger set go for it. I wish there was a bit more color variation, two of the reds are very close in tone to one another. This would be fine but in a set of 30 every pastel counts and if your color isn't dark enough there isn't much you can do. And an extra white would have been nice. But since you can buy these pastels individually I'm not too pressed about that. The color chart in the manual is a helpful tool if you do want to add to your set. You can see which colors come in each set and which colors you're missing.

Love
I have several different brands of soft pastels and wanted something similar to my Sennelier sets. I needed something more affordable so that I can use them regularly without worrying about the cost. I tend to use Faber and Rembrandt most often as well as Nupastels. I am absolutely loving these mungyo/Honsell hand made soft pastels. They blend nicely with other soft pastels and pastel pencils. I’ve tried them on different surfaces/brands of pastel paper, pastel-mat, mixed media, watercolor paper and ampersand pastel board, as well as my own hand made pastel paper with wonderful results. I have recently purchased my second set of 30. This set has beautiful colors and is very affordable. They are similar in softness to Sennelier but not as brittle or dusty. The texture is smooth and creamy so blending with your fingers is pleasantly satisfying. I can’t say enough about the exceptional quality and color selection. These are quickly becoming my favorite. The price jump of the 60 piece set and up was shocking but now I understand why. These are professional artist quality pastels with budget friendly options.

Not buttery soft
These are a great value for the buck. The colors are fantastic but these are in between a hard and soft pastel. They are rather gritty too. If you're on a budget these will work but I'd suggest using a better sanded pastel paper such as Uart or Pastel Mat by Sennelier. Any cheaper paper will leave you frustrated.

A great bargain! Highly recommended: extra soft
These Honsell/Mungyo Handmade Soft Pastels are very much worth the money! They are softer than Sennelier pastels and Koh-I-Noor extra soft pastels, and I imagine this is what some of the softest high-quality pastels feel like. Really a pleasure to paint with them and very useful for "finishing touches" when there is little tooth left on the paper. But they will eat up the tooth, so beware if using for first layers. They also dissolve well with water or alcohol for an underpainting.

Rich smooth color
I buy 2-3 sets a year. Love the bright pigmentation, lays down smoothly, and blends well. Great for sanded pastel paper, and I particularly use them extensively for my street chalk art to provide additional rich color and soft blending.

Absolutely Stunning and Satisfying Pastels
Recently I was gifted enough money to purchase a variety of pastels- and can experiment without guilt ! This is the most beautifully packaged set of pastels I've seen. The colors are brilliant and handrolled sticks are a generous size. Now that I've tried these I place them just below Sennelier and above SoHo Urban. I am very very pleased-the pigment is brilliant and does not crumble (although I love that in other pastels). They are priced very reasonably. I highly recommend Mungyo Gallery Handmade Pastels as an essential part of anyone's pallet - You will not be disappointed!!!!!!
