Will this kit work on both paint and plastic?

It works great.

What’s the difference between this set and the other 3M “1,2,3” set of compounds in the white bottles? Are these the same, but older?

Honestly I have no idea but it could be just the appellation and the quantity of the bottle I think you can zoom the label for both products and see the difference. I went through the cheapest stuff

Would you finish this with a wax after the C product or just use C and done?

Don't know if you have to wax after step C, but it depends on the results you are looking for. I would wax and buff the wax using an orbital buffer because it removes more scatches and swirl marks from buffing, gives you a better finish.

Kit for buffing and polishing an oxodized gelcoat on a boat

I never tried out on a boat but did try it on a fiberglass shower stall and it didn't work well.
