perfect brightness for sleeping
The alarm has approximately 68 beeps per minute (about 1 per second), and will beep for 1 hour before resetting itself. Soft beep setting peaks at 79 db at 1 meter/yard (over 60 db background noise.) loud enough to awaken a light sleeper in a nearby room if not shut off quickly. Loud alarm setting is about 85 db at one meter distance and seems like it should awaken a heavy sleeper. The first beep is slightly lower than the rest when the alarm starts, so there is no gradual increase in loudness, except when using the NAP feature. Setting the alarm is simple, although I wish it had minute and hour set buttons instead of one button the run through all the minutes to advance each hour. The clock is not a atomic clock ( which does not work in Florida so far from the Boulder, CO transmitter) and does not take time from local broadcasts. It has NO AUTOMATIC set feature and if all power (including battery power) is lost. it must be reset manually. It does come preset from the factory so in Florida when you plug it in it displays EST. If you happen to be presently on Daylight Savings time, push the "dst" switch on the back to "+1" , which will add one hour, and I assume you will have to slide the same switch to "-1" when DLST ends in November. If you are not in the eastern time zone when you plug it in, there is a "Time zone" button that rotates the time through each time zone. The snooze button will dim the display, the dimmest one is good for a darkened room, but you may have trouble seeing it across the room with a brightly lit room. The highest setting can bee seen across a brightly lit room, but may be too bright for some to sleep in a dark room at night. I prefer dim or medium brightness. at 1 amp and a 2.1 amp USB charge ports are on the front, I would prefer on the side to keep the phone wires more organized instead of taking up bedside stand space The case is black, almost a metalic look, dimentions 6 1/2" wide, 3 " tall, 2 3/4" deep display is 1" high. Battery backup (2 AA)batteries are difficult to get to, it requires a paper clip and pushing the slide door with some force to open, then close in the correct position and slide to close. (when changing batteries MAKE SURE you put the face on a soft surface to prevent scratching the display face) The power brick has a heavy 6 foot cord. Brick takes up about 4" x 1 3/4" x 2" space including cord as it pigtails out of brick. input 100 - 240 volts, output 5 volt, 3.5 amp. (will work in Europe with adaptor plug). Make sure you push the " NAP" button to reset the alarm for the next day, if you push the alarm "1" or "2" button it will shut that alarm OFF.

Great Alarm Clock
Keeps time, display brightness is adjustable, options to wake up with - radio or increasing beep (might just buzz or beep too but I haven't investigated that option). I like to wake slowly - not with a blaring sudden buzz nor radio playing. This starts out softly and gradually increases in volume until you press snooze or turn it off. Decent level even for hard sleepers. I used to have an atomic one that set itself when daylight saving time changes happened. Couldn't find one like I had but this has a handy button on the back that flips for +/- 1 hours for quick setting changes when time changes. Charging USB is great for tablets, phones, or fitbit or whatever needs USB charging. It also has a battery backup in case of power outages and comes back online with the correct time - the alarm will even sound too if it's on battery. Gentle on the battery too. We just replaced our original battery after almost 7 years. We purchased 3 of this model in March, 2016 for our sons and self. One of our son's started having issues with the alarm not sounding - probably after bouncing it off the floor a time or two :). The other 2 units are still working great. With all the other choices out there, our son placed this on his Christmas wish list to replace the one he had. Timex still takes a licking and keeps on ticking... just like the old commercials used to say. I would definitely recommend this alarm clock.

Dependable!
First off, yes it is super light, and yes they should have put bumps on the Alarm keys so you know what you are pressing to turn off the alarm while you are waking up.But, I love that I can set two alarms because that is what I really need. I cannot wake up on one alarm ring, so the additional alarm is amazing. The beeps really do start super low, and slowly increase in magnitude over time. This allows for me to wake up in the morning without it waking my husband who does not have to wake up at the same time that I do. The nightlight is a nice addition if you need to reset your alarm times at night, or find something on your bed side table. But like others have pointed out, it is not a reading lamp. It is called, a nightlight, afterall. The USB charging port is nice, but I was only able to get it to charge my Droid Razr MAXX HD. It would not charge my iPad 3rd Gen. It is probably a Apple thing. Who knows. The backup battery really does work by the way. We had a power outage one night and I did not even know about it. It had come back on before I woke up, but my alarm still went off to wake me up on time like every morning. I only knew the power went out due to my microwave flashing when I went into the kitchen.I have a busy work schedule and needed a reliable alarm clock to wake me every morning, and this clock does it. I love it and would definitely buy again.
