Jinhao Dragon Phoenix Fountain Pen Fine Writing Luxury Case Set Vintage Black Collection with Ink Refill Converter Signature

This is the 1st fountain pen I've ever owned! I wanted my 1st fountain pen to be special, but I was overwhelmed with all the fountain pens out there, then I saw this one and BOOM! I placed the order for the Black one in the middle of the night around 3am and it arrived the next day O.O It arrived exactly as the pictures shown. The craftsmanship and design of the Dragon & Phoenix is lovely and it writes so smooth. It comes with its' own piston converter (twist type) and I also ordered the Waterman Mysterious Blue ink for fountain pens. I read recommendations to flush out the pen and converter with water and let it dry for 24 hours before filling it with ink for the first time. I was blown away by how smooth & effortless the ink flowed and it's so comfortable to hold. It is heavy with the cap on, so some ppl may not like the weight, but you can always keep the cap off if it feels too heavy. It doesn't bother me- I feel it actually writes smoother. The red box it comes in is beautiful and sturdy. I don't think I would use waterproof ink in this pen because some reviewers said it could clog the nib. I'm absolutely in LOVE with this pen and I highly recommend it!

Received the pen today. Closely examined it under different angles of lighting conditions including the sun. From the look, the more I looked at it, the more I admire it on the palm of my hand. The workmanship is nice for its price, but if I look very closely, a few surfaces of the decorations have some tiny solid bubbles where they should be flat. It might be due to the polishing of hit and miss. It is not perfect but at this price I didn't expect so. Boy, is it heavy and can be used as a weapon! In filling up Waterman ink that I use, one draw took about a little less than half of the converter capacity. I didn't try to fill it all the way up but screw the piston down a bit to let out some air. Now on writing: it is quite smooth and does not skip but I had to hold it at a certain angle to write best in both English and Chinese. Signing my name fast doesn't skip either. The line of of this 0.5mm nib is a touch thinner than the medium nib of my Sheaffer. When I tried reverse writing, it skipped a bit only if I signed fast, so I had to write slowly to avoid skipping. My wife liked it too, but she did say it was heavy, LOL! I was afraid it didn't write well because I also read some other not-so-good reviews of Jinhao pens, but this one writes fine. This is the first day, and no leak so far. I hope it holds up. The packaging is impressive, just like the photos, as advertized -- great for display if you are not using it!

This pen is goergous PERIOD. It glides across the page with ZERO applied pressure. A Jinhao?? Really??? I have much much more costly pens that don’t write this smooth! It is very substantial ( HEAVY ) and can be used as a serious weapon. However that would compromise its beauty. The box is as awesome as the pen!!!! This pen is not nor should/must not be carried in a pocket, etc. if you do, use the sleeve that comes with it and use extreme care as to not disturb the “mood” of the pen. In fact, it should be kept under a locked glass case with the lid of the box displaying the pen. Mondverde Horizon Blue with ITF technology works perfect!!!!!!!!!!!! I used an ink syringe from Goulet Pens to load the cartridge that way I get a full load. The written lines are of a fine width. No skips, hard starts, etc., just flawless and effortless writing. I have the red version. I want the black to complete the pair. You will NOT be disappointed with this purchase AT ALL!!!!

I ordered this instrument two days ago and received it today. Quick turn-around! The pen came well packed and supported in bubble wrap. Within the wrap was a white cardboard outer box. The cardboard was supported with a soft tissue type covering. As the unwrapping continued a beautiful high gloss wooden box was revealed. Upon opening the outer box it revealed a beautiful wooden case covered initially by tissue paper to protect the enamel finish on the wooden case. What a pleasant surprise and experience. When I opened the box I was stunned by its beauty, the detail, color, and design. The thought that ran through my head was this is a real show piece. The pen will show well. Just so you know, I love great, well constructed writing instruments. I could not wait to use it.. And, as time would have it I resisted the temptation to use it right away. I have a birthday in a few days so I decided to wait a while because it is a gift to myself. I can't wait.

This pen is truly incredible. I'm a sucker for anything dragon/phoenix but this really does deliver. The ink converter is super handy since I can fill it with whatever ink I want. The tip writes with a very nice consistent flow. The pen weighs a good deal so with the cap screwed on the back it can tire your hand if you write for 3 to 9 hours like I do (almost solely for my journal and pretty lady back home). On the other hand, the weight makes the pen almost want to do larger calligraphy flourishes and makes script and cursive fonts a breeze. It also comes in a gorgeous red box, perfect if you plan to make this a gift. WELL worth the money to anyone who can appreciate both the incredible aesthetic as well as the finer details of its practicality.
