Another Greatest Hits, OH NO!! Some Rarities on This One
Olivia, 70's mellow queen, Grease mega star, Physical guru, cancer survivor, animal advocate, and maker of fine wine, releases her most comprehensive hits package yet, some rarities on this one, let me break it down song by song for you.If Not For You- her first hit record, a minor top 100 hit in the USA and abroad, an amateurish remake of a Bob Dylan song.Banks Of The Ohio- a folk song covered many times, by many people, but one of my favesLet Me Be There- her breakout mega hit in the USA, Nashville played it like crazy, but the good ole boys didn't like an Aussie winning all their awards.Top 5 hitIf You Love Me- the followup single, equally big hit, and the album of the same name hit number one on the charts, top 5 hitI Honestly Love You- if you haven't heard this you must be living on Mars, her first USA number one single.Have You Never Been Mellow- number one billboard single, number one album of the same name. Please Mr. Please- Another Nashville smash song, this one even makes a reference to Nashville. Top 5 hitSomething Better To Do- a saccharin sound Olivia became known for, top 40 hitLet It Shine-a real hoe down country song, dated lyricsCome On Over- a classic gem, she revised this accapella for her concert tour, top 40 hitDon't Stop Believin'- a great single didn't get enough attention, Olivia starts to slide in the chartsEvery Face Tells A Story-great song but once again sales are weakSam -sam, sam you know where I am, that says it all folks, this one did better in the charts, top 10 hitMaking A Good Thing Better-she started to slide off the charts with this weak single and weak album, sales were bad, could have been her swan song if it hadn't been for Grease the following year.Hopelessly Devoted To You -she's back in the top 5!! this song is from a movie you may have seenSummer Nights -another top 10 hit for Olivia from GREASEYou're The One That I Want -ofcourse the smash duet with John Travolta...number one on USA Charts and most of the worldA Little More Love-riding high and literally becoming Sandy 2 on the next album , top 5 hitDeeper Than The Night - one of my faves, great pop single, top 20 hitDancin' 'Round And 'Round- a last try at a country singleTotally Hot-Sandy 2 reincarnated, sounds like it should be from GREASEFool Country -rare song never released, except on the b-side of the Xanadu 45 vinyl singles..performed during the finale of Xanadu, didn't make it onto the soundtrack.Xanadu- duet with ELO doing backup vocals and the music, from the movie of the same name, been remade by other artists, but none stand up to this version, a number one smash single in Europe, top 10 in the USA.Magic-even Roger Ebert said the movie Xanadu was bearable because of this great song, number one on the charts for several weeksSuddenly- a great duet with Cliff Richard, a spacy love song, top 20 hitPhysical-Olivia cuts her hair off, starts a fad, and stays on billboard charts at number one for 10 weeksMake A Move On Me - superstar Olivia sings her sexy way into the top 10 againLandslide - top 20 in Europe, tepid hit in the USA, imaginative songHeart Attack- a filler for a greatest hits album, suprisingly hits number 3 on the chartsTied Up- another song from the gretaest hits volume 2 album, this one was written better but was a weaker single, top 40 hitTwist Of Fate- Livvy still riding high on the charts with this song of heavenly intervention, top 5 hitLivin' In Desperate Times - described as "manic pop", top 40 hit, I love this oneSoul Kiss- naughty naughty, she sings about getting down on her knees, you do the math, top 20 hit in the USAThe Best Of Me-duet with David Foster, great song, didn't chart well suprisingly, made top 100 on the chartsCan't We Talk It Over In Bed- the 2nd single from the Rumour album, odd choice but nice to see it getting some attention, no chart positionThe Rumour-Elton John wrote it and did back up vocals, great song from album of same name, top 60 hitReach Out For Me-remake of Burt Bacharach classic from her lullaby album dedicated to her daughterDeeper Than A River -a new song added to a 1992 greatest hits collection, adult contempoary hit, not as a big hit as the other single from the album thoughGrease Mega-Mix -a compilation of the hit songs from the movieI Honestly Love You -1998 remake of her 1974 classic, this time she sings it with Babyface, and marks her short lived return to country music, performed decent on the charts, making this the 3rd time it charted

The one and only Olivia at her Best!
I've been a fan of Olivia all my life. Listening to her records growing up, her mellow melancholy voice is so soothing and beautiful. This CD packs all her top hits from the 70's - 80's. Great Stuff! If you love Olivia Newton John, or just enjoy great music, get this CD! Some people say her musical style was a crossover of pop and country, but the truth is her music had no boundaries and blended whatever mood she happened to be in, all of which were wonderful to listen to! Amazing music by a spectacular singer!

Superb Collection
Olivia Newton-John is a multi-talented, multi-faceted performer who has had a career that has lasted decades and covered many different styles of music. This GOLD collection is the best out there in trying to represent all the periods from her career. Olivia's signature song I HONESTLY LOVE YOU was a pop classic and garnered her two Grammys. But it also raised controversy among the country music community as to whether she was truly a country artist as she claimed. And the answer to that is yes, she was. (FYI - the Grammy for I HONESTLY LOVE YOU was for best pop artist.) Before this infamous song Olivia had recorded many albums that were pure country. They were amazing releases and she had hits like IF NOT FOR YOU and LET ME BE THERE. Her country period is represented with 14 songs on this collection. Then came GREASE and Olivia's career took a turn towards definite pop. There were many hits from GREASE and she also released two great pop albums TOTALLY HOT and PHYSICAL. Then there was the soundtrack to XANADU. This period is represented with 18 songs on this collection. The remainder of the songs here are other hits and a super GREASE megamix. The standouts on the whole collection are in my opinion BANKS OF THE OHIO, HAVE YOU NEVER BEEN MELLOW, COME ON OVER, EVERY FACE TELLS A STORY, A LITTLE MORE LOVE, TOTALLY HOT, XANADU, SUDDENLY and THE RUMOUR made with Elton John.Olivia has always been blessed and cursed. She is beautiful and possesses the voice of an angel. She has amazing range and great emotive delivery. But often the prettiness of her voice had people seeing all her music as mere pop and they didn't see the layers beneath. She has always been hugely popular but definitely deserves more critical acclaim. She has covered country, pop and standards and made each genre her own. This collection is a great overview but for each period of her career you are interested in do yourself a favor and get the albums she released at those times. They are all on cd and her albums had some excellent cuts other than all the hits.I must end by saying the remastering here is superb. The sound quality is excellent and I highly recommend this collection.

All the good stuff plus more
There are songs on here I didn't realize I knew until I listened to the cds. Of course, there are some I don't know/never heard of, but overall I consider this a gem.
