vacuumed packed in a jar
Traditional holiday chestnut casserole used to require boiling and peeling HOT chestnuts. The shell and the fuzzy sticky underskin are difficult to get off unless they are hot enough to scald your fingertips. These chestnuts come peeled, great quality and flavor, big, whole, no worms or rotting like the nuts in shells we used to buy. If you're making them glace (sugar-coated) or in pudding or some other dish, definitely the way to go!

Good Chestnuts
Product of France/E.U. The nuts come from a variety of E.U. countries according to the label. Expiration date 2020. Good taste, I would say they are typical French supermarket high quality, but maybe not the absolute highest Gourmet quality. Mostly whole and large pieces, a little of the unavoidable broken bits.

Great quality and flavor
I usually buy these from William & Sonoma every year. They were out and I ordered these in a panic. They did not make it for Thanksgiving but despite all that, I give them a five star. Very fresh and wonderful flavor. Kept up well in the dish and did not just mush out. I will be getting these from now on and will order earlier.

Great product.
The chestnuts were a great size and really meaty. Besides tasting good they were great in my chestnut stuffing. The only problem with them was the jar was so big that I had to eat a lot of chestnuts in a very short period of time (they said to use in 2-3 days after opening). Oh well, I had to eat them, didn't I?

Open jars
These arrived promptly but one jar was completely open- lid off!! and the other jars vacuum seal was not down but had popped up. These are not cheap and cannot be returned, so a complete waste of $40 as I don't want to risk using them.

Not Very Good
The presentation is outstanding. However, you don't eat the presentation. The best and to the point thatI describe these chestnuts, they taste like a canned and preserved product. They don't taste like anythingnear a fresh roasted chestnut. They would be very fine to cook with. If you like fresh green beans, they'relike opening a jar of green beans that you canned last summer. Some of the bagged roasted chestnuts, at a much more reasonable price, are better. I have been buying chestnutsfor the past month. I will NOT purchase anymore of these. You have to try something to know. I amhelping you. If you like the taste and texture of a fresh roasted chestnut, you're NOT going to like these.I have given you a " heads up " . Don't be concerned about finding a rotten one, they very well canned...

Fresh and tasty.
Delicious and fresh and good value considering where they are coming from. A gazillion times worth it if the alternative is roasting your own.
