Best item you never knew you needed!!
I love this product! I got my first one as a gag gift from my mom back in middle school and let me tell you it was the best Christmas present I got that year! I ended up using it so often I broke it sadly. I used it probably every day for almost 3 years! My family also loved it very much, so when I saw it recently I just knew I had to buy myself one again. Super simple to use and it works great if you are like me and can't make a grilled cheese sandwich without burning one side.

Dissatisfied customer
I surprised my husband with it. He loved it but I was disappointed because it was not placed in front of my door it was placed in between two vehicles. Unsatisfactory thank god no one stole it.

Waste of Money
UPDATE: Dropping my rating to one star. It's too late to return this so it's going into the trash. If you like grilled cheese sandwiches spend your money on a frying pan or toaster oven. If you want a smoke machine to test the smoke alarms in your kitchen, this may be for you.The most serious of it's many flaws is that there is no easy way to clean it. The butter the instructions have you put on the outside of the sandwich drips into the toaster. After a couple of uses it smokes like crazy. You can scrub the racks in the sink but there's no way to clean off the dripped butter or cheese inside the toaster. Next time you use it, you've got a smoke machine.Don't waste your money on this.Original Review:I love grilled cheese sandwiches and liked the idea of a toaster designed to make them. This one works somewhat but there are a lot of drawbacks and caveats.Essentially this is a toaster designed to hold racks instead of bread slices. The case is plastic and feels thin enough that a hard bump or short drop would break it. I also question the wisdom of a plastic housing for heating elements. To use it you butter the outside of two slices of bread, place a slice of cheese between them, and use the rack(s) to hold everything vertical. The heating elements on the sides toast the bread and melt the cheese. Per the directions, you can add things besides cheese to the sandwich but you have to be careful not to make it too thick. If you do, it will burn and fill your kitchen with smoke and the burnt sandwich will be difficult to remove.Unfortunately, it is not easy to clean the toaster after use. The racks are delicate but if you have a large enough sink you can lay them flat and wash with hot water and a soft cloth. You must be certain to remove any butter or cheese that dripped into the bottom of the rack or the next time you make a sandwich the toaster functions as a smoke machine. The racks are somewhat flimsy. Before the first use, three of the four plugs on the end of the handles fell out. The last one fell out a few uses later. There is no "crumb door" on the bottom of the toaster so you need to turn the whole thing upside down over the sink. If any butter or cheese dripped out of the racks into the body of the toaster it is going to smoke the next time you use it and I have found no easy way to clean the inside. If smoke bothers you it's probably best to run it empty once or twice under the vent hood of your stove. After using it several times I have been forced to accept that it's actually easier to make a grilled cheese sandwich the traditional way, in a frying pan. I thought the toaster would be easier to clean but it is not and it smokes much worse than pan frying. This device is a fun idea but Grandma's way still works best.

You buy it for novlty, not the functionality.
Technically works, but is messy, cheese drips, not the easiest to clean. But is a great novelty or gag gift when you want something that is a weird talking piece. This is technically a second one I bought and donating it too a charity raffle.

Good concept but needs some work.
A product with potential but a few design flaws. First, the cage is too narrow. The instructions suggest not using thick sliced bread but that’s an understatement. I bought some sliced brioche bread, just a fraction thicker than standard white bread. I put in two slices of cheese. No way. It wouldn’t even fit in the cage. So I switched to standard Tastee-style bread with the rounded top. It fit in the cage but you had to squeeze pretty hard. When it was all the way in, with half the butter scraped off, the round top part of the bread was sticking out the top of the toaster almost an inch. I ran the toaster anyway and of course the top wasn’t toasted at all and the cheese not melted. As an engineer I follow the rule to test everything before putting it into service. The basic concept here is ok but the dimensions are not. The cages need to be at least an inch taller and the sides separated by no less than a full inch. Then try it with standard store white bread and a couple of standard cheese slices. The cage should descend without scraping the sides of the slot and the top should be fully inside.

Very glad I bought it!!
This thing works perfectly as long as you use thin sliced bread. Thin slices are the key to it making awesome grilled cheese in minutes. Remove the trays, push the toaster lever down then hit the preheat button (preheat button will light up red). Once it pops up (1-2min) it’s preheated and ready to toast. You must preheat it correctly for it to work! Turn the “toast level” knob all the way to 7. Use a fine layer of butter on each slice of bread and no more than two slices of cheese. Have the buttered bread and cheese ready before preheating so you can swiftly assemble the pieces onto the trays (don’t forget to pay attention to which direction the buttered sides are facing) and then put them back in. You want to get the sandwiches assembled and back in the toaster as quickly as possible once it’s finished preheateding. Push the toast lever back down and your done. That’s all it takes to make perfect grilled cheese. The entire process from start to finish, making two sandwiches at once, takes 5min. You can make one or two grilled cheeses at a time. It works just as well cooking one as it does cooking two. Great kitchen appliance that is quick and easy enough for my 7y/o to use.
