Effective and convenient
After years of shaving, my wife and I decided to invest in the Philips Lumea Series 8000. My wife has very little body hair, so I'll be sharing this review from my own perspective. To be honest, I was initially sceptical about how effective an IPL device could be, especially compared to professional treatments. However, after consistent use over the past 4 months, I can confidently say it has surpassed my expectations.I began by treating my back (4 months ago) and expanded to my chest and stomach (about 2 months ago). The manufacturer recommends using the device every 2 weeks for the first few sessions, then switching to monthly maintenance. I followed this guidance quite closely.EffectivenessThe results have been impressive. I have fair skin and dark hair, which is considered an ideal combination for IPL treatments, so that likely worked in my favour. Even after the very first session, I noticed a visible reduction in hair density. Of course, don’t expect miracles after just one session — it takes persistence. After completing the recommended initial sessions, I’d estimate that the amount of hair on both my chest and back has been reduced to roughly 20% of what it was originally. Some hairs remain stubborn, which might be due to either the nature of the hair follicles or the difficulty in targeting certain spots — the device has a relatively small treatment window, making it tricky to cover every area perfectly, especially on the back.Since you need to shave before each session, it’s also hard to visually track which patches still have hair, which could affect targeting.Usability & ComfortEach session for the back or chest/stomach takes me about 30 minutes per area. The treatment itself can sting a bit on the highest intensity setting, particularly in more sensitive spots, but it's tolerable and varies by personal pain threshold. The flash is bright, similar to a old school camera flash, but not bothersome if you’re mindful.Maintenance & Long-Term UseIt’s important to understand that IPL isn’t a permanent hair removal solution — and neither is professional laser treatment. You’ll still need top-up sessions every few months to maintain results. The manufacturer suggests touch-ups every 6 months, but I might opt for every 3 months to stay on top of regrowth.Additional DetailsThe product is ready to use out of the box: plug it in and go.It includes 4 specialized attachments for different body areas, a carry pouch (though we just keep it in the box), and the power adapter has a long enough cord to avoid any awkward pulling while using it.Price-wise, it’s certainly an investment, but I’d recommend watching for Black Friday or Prime Day sales — the discounts can make it far more affordable.Final ThoughtsOverall, I’m very pleased (as is my wife) with the Philips Lumea Series 8000. It’s convenient, effective (especially if you’re a good candidate with fair skin and dark hair), and much more cost-effective than ongoing salon treatments. Just keep in mind it requires patience and maintenance — but the significant reduction in hair and smoother skin is well worth the effort.

Noticeable Improvement with Consistent Use
I hesitated for a while before buying this product, and reading the reviews helped me decide, so here’s mine. Background: I have light skin and black hair.I’ve been using this product for 8 months now and I’m very happy with the results:- Underarms: Hair is almost completely gone. The treatment is quick and easy in this area.- Legs: You need to be very thorough to cover the entire area, and my legs are quite tanned, which I think affects the results slightly. Even so, I’ve seen noticeable improvement, even if the hair isn’t completely gone yet.I don’t find the process too time-consuming: underarms are fast, and legs take longer, but once you get the hang of it, it goes more quickly. The device can get slightly warm after extended use, so I prefer to treat different zones on different days.Overall, I’m very happy with the purchase and would recommend it.

This works!!!!
44 years old, with lots of dark body hair that seems to grow at breakneck speed, and a long time sufferer of ingrown hairs and 'strawberry skin'. No matter what hair removal method I have used, hair returned after a few days and no amount of consistency has thinned out the hair or slowed regrowth down, and my legs are never smooth, even after a wax. I have wanted to invest in laser treatment for years but the cost was just restrictive. After reading the numerous positive reviews of the Philips Lumea I decided to take advantage of a Black Friday deal, with the vain hope of finally having smooth legs this summer.I knew before it arrived that I would need to commit to an initial 10 week cycle of treatment which I was prepared to do, especially if it really did deliver results. I also made sure that I read the instructions and tips carefully before I started the treatments, even a 24hour skin test (something that I often don't). I was determined to do this right. My commitment has paid off, I am so happy with the result. I have treated my legs, underarm, bikini line and upper lip and am about to complete the 10 week treatment. Bikini line and underarm hair all but gone (never been so neat and tidy) and, save a couple of patches which I have clearly missed during the treatment, my legs are hair free. My upper lip hair had gone after three treatments. I can not believe how successful this has been and would definitely recommend. Considering the price of professional treatment, there is no competition over what is the better value, if you are prepared to put in the work and ensure that you stick to the treatment regime. The treatment itself is largely pain free, it feels like a sharp prick. When you do your first treatment you do a test to measure the recommended light level (1-5), and if it's comfortable to do so you can increase this up to level 5. Different body parts can take different levels, on my legs I could crank it right up to 5 but my underarm could only take a 3.There is also an App, which I have found really helpful to track my treatments, light levels and remind me when my next treatment is due. It also has videos offering tips, which I have only just watched but wish I had done earlier - if you can seek out the video giving tips on how not to miss spots on your legs, it would have been great if it had been part of the intro when you download it.All I can add is, if you're not sure whether to invest - DO IT. THIS WORKS!!! Really very impressed and delighted with the results and looking forward to finally having smooth legs this summer.
