Standard recipes, nothing new
This is a book of largely standard Middle Eastern recipes. It's all very well presented and laid out, but there's nothing really in the way of invention to be seen here, and more would perhaps be expected on that front from a former Masterchef contestant. This would make a very good introduction to Middle Eastern food for those who have not cooked it before, but for people like me who have been cooking this cuisine for many years and have many cookbooks of the region's food it really offers nothing new.

For fans of Sabrina Ghayour
Rukmini Iyer's cookbook closely mirrors Ghayour's 'Persiana' in layout with sections on meze, soups stews & tagines, grills & roasts, rice & vegetables, salads grains & couscous, dips preserves & sauces, breads & savoury pastries, desserts sweets & drinks. I am particularly looking forward to cooking 'Lebanese Beef Kofte Broth', 'Fesenjan Chicken & Walnut Stew', 'Salmon with Spices & Pomegranate'.As you would expect from a food stylist, this book is beautiful throughout. There are appetising images of every dish, and every page is edged with a Middle Eastern tile pattern.I paid a fiver for 'The Middle Eastern Kitchen' at a discount book store, which is an absolute steal. Overall this recipe book is eminently giftable ... or just treat yourself whilst awaiting the release of Ghayour's 'Sirocco'!
