Are the batteries easy to replace

Yes, though never had to actually do it. Mine have been decorating the east porch for two summers. It looks like the south Texas sun will damage them beyond use before the batteries need replacing.

You can install with screws. It can be hanged firmly on the wall.

why isn't there a template on the box or included inside so the screws are correctly spaced?????

I had to use my rule to measure everything including the hole locations and spacing on the wall, if you measure the space between the holes go from center to center, remember that these were made in China, they don't think of these things.
