ION gold plating is not the definition of being made out of "pure gold". Ion hold plated is a scientific term used to mean that a base metal is "Ionized" with pure gold metal material flaking or particles. It can be 14, 18, 0r 24 kart gold particles, but it is only a "covering", something like a paint job, but more permanent in lasting ability usually, if it is done right. It does add some value to the watch however, but nothing compared to it being made of pure gold. ( a watch like that if it were made of pure gold, would be worth at least $2500, probably much more cause that would only be the value of the gold itself!) So, the answer is yes, it might be real gold, but ONLY gold plated, not through and through.
