The Secrets of Dinosaurs (PNSO Encyclopedia for Children, #1)

This book is simply gorgeous. It is a sturdy, hardbound book. Larger than I could tell from the photo, it's about a9" x12" x1.5". I just wrapped and shipped it to my great nephew, so I'm not completely sure of these measurements. The layout and design is gorgeous. It is jam packed with a good number of dinosaurs. Each one has a two page spread with a short description of that dinosaur, and its time period. It's enough to be interesting, but not boring. The illustrations truly astonished me. They are simply gorgeous paintings of each animal in a plausible setting. They are beautifully rendered with exquisite detail. These are NOT kiddie cartoons, and they should delight anyone looking at them. There is a good index too. I wish I had written this before I'd sent the book as a gift. The author and designers should get more credit than I can give them. This book is a gem and I hope it will be treasured and used often for many years. It can be a wonderful visual introduction for younger readers and the written information should help as an introduction to learning more for anyone interested in dinosaurs.

My 9 year old grandson & his 12 year old sister love dinosaurs & were so excited about this book. Both have been enjoying reading it. The artwork is amazing, the information is impressive & it covers many different dinosaurs. My grandchildren can identify so many kinds of dinosaurs & their characteristics. Pretty cool.

It's focused on a lot of asian / Chinese dinos due to author's & illustrator's ethnicity I assume. So cool to see dinos we don't usually see depicted, furthermore, the SAME artist does the whole book, and has very new takes on some of these colors and guys that we simply will never know about (yes, I know a couple samples of "in tact" DNA have been found... but they're are sooooo many species. Remember, most of what we learn is an iconic species in a given family, usually the species after which the family (or genus?) is named.A few MORE awesome things about this book aside from the above:1. The short writing is specific to a category, like describing behavior, or a fight, not just a list of facts. which can be exciting and different after reading a million stats pages, right?2. MOST dinos are shown on a timeline graph, very cool,3. and most are shown in relative size to a person, bus, or airplane at the bottom as well in a little silhouette4. dinosaurs are organized into orders Saurischians, etc. and suborders (sauropods, theropods, etc) and collected in this order for the pages in the book.5. Dinosaurs appear in multiple indices for order and location (color codes for location).HAVE FUN!

I got this book on the basis of viewing the preview and it not only met my excitement and expectations it exceeded it. It is a Beautiful and rewarding book that breathes life into creatures that fire and capture our imaginations. The art alone was worth the purchase price but the text and information is at an amazingly high level and just incredible. Purchase this- you won't be disappointed.

This book is extremely well made and has a lot of great pictures and information about dinosaurs. I purchased it for my grandson who is 7 and he loves it! This book is one to be kept forever!

Beautiful illustrations of the dinosaurs with small paragraphs detailing information specific to the animals.Plus a size guide for the animals,so the kids can appreciate it.My son certainly enjoys and the funny tidbits.

My friend's 8 year old son loves everything dinosaur. Bought this book for him for Christmas. According to his parents, he finds nuggets of information to tell them constantly. Sounds like a hit to me!
