Waste of money
I thought this would be a real asset when it was time to do a small point up job. All this tool did was squeeze the water out of the mortar. I tried mixing the mortar several ways and not was always the same result... it squeezed the water out and compacted the mortar in the tube. Never once could I get the mortar to flow out of the appropriate tip.To be fair, I have not tried it with grout but imagine I’d get the same results.I’d suggest you spend the money on the appropriate hand tools and do your point up the old fashion way. Thankfully, I already had all those tools.

Smaller batches of mortar works best
This mud gun works as described. I was able to repair crumbled mortar in 160 feet of block fence , just remember that pressure on the mortar in the barrel will cause the water to separate leaving the plunger end of the mud load dry. Once you figure out the consistency it goes quite well. I would run 5 feet then go back with a bead/cove tool to pack and form the joint.

I So Wanted This to Work
This unit was purchased to help with applying SpecMix pointing mortar to a new 1.5 story home clad with veneer brick. The first attempt on a test area did not go well. We started by mixing the mortar to a consistency appropriate to troweling. The gun clogged before much mortar at all was in place. We then mixed successive small batches making each successive batch looser, or more wet. It wasn't until the mortar was so loose that it oozed out from between the bricks that the gun carried on without clogging. To give things a better chance for success, we ordered a bag of FritzPak plasticizer (Superciser 5) and went through the same series of trials. There was no success until the mortar was too loose to stay in place. This is really too bad. I wanted this device to work and had high hopes because it was developed by an American engineering company that has been around for a long time. The unit gets three stars because even though it didn't work for us, it is solidly built and well thought out. I'm afraid that it just might be the physics involved that makes this unit and others like it fail. We hope to find a solution that consistently works.

This grout gun works great!
This gun is well made and provides ample pressure to smoothly control the flow of grout. My application is for horizontal floor grout between handmade viariable porosity terra cotta tiles that are rather difficult to clean contrasting grout color from, so the standard flood and squeegee trowel technique leaves a horrendous cleanup job. This works great to fill the joints with just enough extra to compress in neatly leaving minimal surface mess. Even though I have variable 3/8" to 3/4" joint width due to tile irregularities, I found the narrow nozzle, cut to about 1/4" opening, best to deposit grout at the bottom of the joint in a quick first pass then carefully fill it on pass two. Using the quick set polymer grout, I mix one tube at a time and clean between tubes. I found that a standard mouth canning jar funnel just fits and makes loading the tube very easy. I can see that if you tried to use this with a stiff pointing mix for vertical brick or irregular stone for example the mortar would be (should be ?!) too stiff for this applicator, but for horizontal grout or narrow vertical joints it works as promised. Wondering about how long the nozzles would last and availability of replacements, I see they are readily available at low cost from Albion if not on Amazon. But the first set are still going strong. Constructive suggestions: I suspect most people have a better mixer than the one that came with this - I do - I suggest Albion delete the mixer and replace it with the right funnel, and, as the tip is very hard to remove from the barrel after a single use I suggest selling with a barrel for each tip. Highly recommended.

DO NOT BUY !!!
Once again DO NOT BUY !!!This gun clogs unless the product is runny. (Did anyone notice that the company doesn’t have videos regarding this product). Definitely not worth the time and money…mortar bags are cheaper and faster.
