For model # 831000 it has been been labeled at 6 gallons of water capacity.

what filter does it take?

Essick Air AIRCARE 1043 Replacement Space Saver Wick. Amazon sells a 3 pack. That is what I ordered. One filter usually lasts me all winter.

Is it directional at all? Does it point the air? We do want to point the air.

It is not adjustable but does flow in the direction of the front of the unit. The air is drawn in at the top and blows forward and upward (not "straight up") so the flow is directable by the orientation of the humidifier. In the photo, the flat top is where the dry air is drawn in, the angled/scoop is where the humidified air comes out. (That is also the same place that you fill the reservoir.)
