Much cheaper than other books on the Weimar Republic
This book is a quick and interesting read which describes the main political events in Germany between 1919 and 1933. It's a complicated timeline with a lot of characters. I wanted to learn more about some of the events and characters, but my search on Amazon determined that other books on the Weimar Republic tend to be much more expensive.

A very informative and good read.
This book should be read by everyone who wishes to remain in a free country. Hitler's rise to power was enabled by the ignorance and apathy of the German populace.Historical ignorance leads to political naivety.

Good starter
If you've never studied the Weimar Republic this will get you started but it's not comprehensive, and there are a number of proofreading errors in the text.

A momentous 14 years
This book chronicles the 14 years between World War One and World War Two in Germany. Its numerous short chapters give the details of the politics and economic events, both within the country and the World at large, that influenced the rise of the Nazi Party and Adolf Hitler. It details the mistakes that were made by well meaning, but self-serving Government Officials, trying to regain Germany’s status on the World stage. It should serve as a cautionary tale as to how democracy can be manipulated and fail.

The Weimar Republic: A Democracy without Democrats
It was interesting to learn that the Kiel Mutiny, led by the Navy prior to WWI’s armistice inspired the Weimar Republic’s “Democracy without Democrats”. Consequently, the Weimer republic was forced to declare itself a democratic republic when both communists and social democrats declared an unsanctioned new state. Populism and the Government sponsored Freikorp enhanced the odds of an unstable post-war Germany . This led to the rise of Nazism. Oddly enough SPD was initially reluctant to join the revolution that led to the provisional government. Furthermore, Ebert’s provisional government realized how detrimental it was stoking class revolution for their own gain without ‘continuing the conversation’.Regarding the destructive Treaty of Versailles, no country was happy with it. In fact, it only initiated a negative feedback loop of hyperinflation spurred on by both sides of WWI. It is important to note however that Jewish industrialists like Rathenau helped keep Germany afloat during WW1 and prevented allied occupation and destruction of Germany by negotiating the signing of it. However, “the Decemberist Traitors” influence and power scared the German populous. The book also highlights an alternate path Germany could have taken. For example, the American Dawes plan and moderate fiscal reform brought about the Weimar renaissance that would have been set in stone if the subsequent Young Plan was enacted in 1929. Alas, Black Thursday struck and initiated the Great Depression.Prior experience with the negative feedback loop of hyperinflation influenced The Weimar government to cut spending and increase taxes on the German populous in reaction to this global economic catastrophe. This caused their political and economic situation to spirlal downward. Women were pressured to quit their jobs because men should be employed not them. It didn’t help that government officials gave Hitler a political voice in the chancellory. This inevitably spelled the doom of Germany’s republic by enhancing discord in the chancellory. Furthermore, the establishment failed “ to box [Hitler] in” as chancellor.. The Reichstag fire and passage of the enabling act were the death knell for the republic and ensured the spread of fascism and the start of WWII.As a WWII buff, this is an interesting book to read.
