4X4 camping hot water shower
itβs quite a while since I last attempted camping however as Iβm shortly going to be out of my comfort zone π I decided to attempt a method of having convenient hot water showers. I looked at various options & decided to install a small Heat Exchanger into the vehicle heater circuit. Still some tidying up to do however it seems to work pretty OK with constant flow from cold out at ~34degC. HEx from Amazon, the quickconnect couplings & fittings another $100+, garden shower coil. I had the 12V pump already. Pics attached in case anyone else is interested.

Small for a primary wort chiller but great as a secondary
This thing is great. I use a Blichmann Therminator but my tap water only allows me to cool my wort to the high 70s. I set this up with a fountain pump recirculating in a 5 gallon bucket of ice water to act as a secondary chiller (after the Therminator) and it would easily cool the wort into the high 50s as fast as my pump could flow. Like other reviewers said, it may be a little bit small for a primary wort chiller, but it worked perfectly for my application.

Opt for the 20-plate model
This chiller works great, however I would recommend upgrading to the 20-plate model if you are using this for homebrewing (wort chilling). To get a good cold break, the flow through this chiller has to be slowed way down. It would work fine if my house water flowed a little faster, but there is just not enough cooling area with a lower cold-side flow.

Very efficient, but leaks internally.
I purchased this about 6 months ago to use for an on board shower while on extended off road camping trips. I ran my heater core lines thru one side and would hook up a fresh water pump to the other side. It had a very small leak from the get-go, but worked great. There are others who have done the same with great results, but I'm tired of the antifreeze clean up.

Amazingly effective
I use this to heat up a potable water tank in my Suburban. Amazing build quality and it performs without issue. I do not believe you can find a better made product.

As Advertised
Good threads on 1/2 NPT female connections. Threaded mounting bosses are proud of the casing and have to be countersunk to mount on a flat surface. Only about 1/4 inch of female thread to work with in the mounting boss. Bolts supplied are M5 and only about 1/2" long making mounting in it on a thin plate impossible because the bosses are proud and on a thick plate or board with countersinks it needed longer bolts. Maybe a solution with mounting ears would be better or longer studs welded on with nuts. As supplied you could only mount it on a 3/8" board with carefully countersunk or oversize holes. Came with advertised approval stamps on the label. Overall pleased but mounting was awkward.

Worst investment
Bought this to supplement my domestic hot water sidearm heat exchanger on a wood boiler system. While it worked, we'd never run out of hot water when the boiler was burning. After less than 2 years, it started leaking. I asked about warranty but the manufacturer told me that it was my water PH to blame.
