Soak 'em and Smoke 'em
We have been using cedar planks for grilling salmon fillets for a number of years now. There are two thing that really make a cedar plank awesome for salmon, imparting a smoky flavor to the fish and retaining the moisture. I had run out of a large number of planks that I purchased in bulk a couple of years ago. Looking around I was finding that people were selling a 2 pack of cedar planks for $10 in our area, so I decided to give these a try. I soak them for 1.5-2 hours and don't reuse them (that is my personal preference) as I do want a little char on the bottom of them. While slightly smaller in size than my last ones, they are still large enough that I only need to use two planks to cook a 1.5 sockeye fillet, which I had to do with the last ones anyways. So this is less wasteful for our family. As far as sanded vs. unsanded, I don't know if I notice a huge difference, other than the fish skin doesn't stick to the unsanded ones. They provide the same moist, smoky fish at what I would consider to be a good price point. The thickness is perfect for items that cook in under 10 to 15 minutes with the way I grill, which is at a higher temp with planks to get a good steam going and a seal on the outside of the fish to keep the moisture in. However the all the I have used planks are pretty much spent after that. Normally the fillets are on the grill for about 7-8 minutes depending on thickness (but sockeye is not nearly as thick as atlantic variety.)I will continue to buy these for fish and veggies. Who knows, maybe one day will try thicker ones and try some ribeyes on them. I will continue to buy these as I need more. This is just one man's opinion and in no way can speak for your experience with the product. But I owuld reccomend them to friends and family alike.

Nice cedar planks for AMAZING salmon
This is an excellent price for the planks. I have been grilling fish (salmon only actually) like this for several years and am a huge fan of the smoky flavor that it produces. I have not observed that the rough cut planks leave a better flavor, but I can't say they do not either. These planks are smaller than any of the others that I have bought and I was a wee bit disappointed with that, but they are perfect for cooking enough fish for about four healthy portions. When I had a huge piece to cook, I cut it in half and used two.The ones I got were covered with saw dust which needs to be washed off, before soaking as you want to eat the flavor of the cedar but not the cedar itself! As a general comment, I have found that different grills handle the planks differently. I cooked this on someone's grill with the flame on high and it cooked and smoked the fish very nicely. My own grill is inexpensive and the grill surface is closer to flame and the plank actually catches on fire. This seemed drastic the first time and I lowered the heat and tried to put it out. However, I found that the plank did not burn past the point where the fish was in contact with the wood, so the fish did not burn at all except getting a nice crispy smoky edge. It is not common that I have to fight people off from stealing this tasty bit before it reaches the table. So my opinion is that if your cedar catches on fire, let it burn! Remove your fish from the plank when it is done to your taste and let it cool, then throw it out.

They must have if you’re cooking salmon on a grill
You soak these boards and put them right on top of the grill with your salmon on top and it keeps anything from sticking and cooks. Your salmon really well. The best I found.

fantastic!
Man, what a difference good cedar makes to your salmon! fantastic value and a great product. these planks are not too thick or too thin. they lend great flavor and the smell is incredible. when I've exhausted them I break them up and use as smoker wood for smoked salmon. I use up every last bit and I'm very glad to have found these. they proved superior to the planks i was getting from Walmart or my neighborhood Publix(grocery chain).

Fantastic Cedar Planks
These are the best cedar planks that I've ever used. They are thick planks that burns very nicely and puts out the more cedar smoke than any other I've used. They are all exactly the same thickness which is an added bonus. These are now the only ones that I will buy on Amazon.

Great except...
The planks provide the desired flavor. Unfortunately, as i get to plank 4 or 5 I discover the next 4 planks have a 1.5" hole in them so my fish overcooks in that spot. Seems like this would something quality control would have caught or...they stick the defects in the middle on purpose to pass them along. I'll try a different brand/supplier next time.

When they are on fire, your food is done.
I love cedar grilling planks. These are fresh with lots of spicy cedar scent. They are the perfect size for a large piece of salmon filet (single portion) and truly lend that incomparable cedar flavor to the fish. Be sure to soak them well before putting them on the grill as once they dry out, they catch fire. I recommend cooking over medium- low heat for better control and keep a spray bottle of water nearby in the event they flame up. Good price for 12 planks. Would definitely buy again.
