You can’t beat these reels for the price
Typical of Shimono this is a great real that does not break the bank and works

It’s so smooth you will not believe it
Caught like a 100 fish not one jam and zero problems. I match it with a medium rod so I could feel the fish. Remember this is not for big fish. You will be happy using it inside a sound or pond fishing.

Not smooth after a couple trips
Reel seemed ok at first. Now there is a lot of resistance when reeling in even a small lure. Handle is hard to turn. Takes away all the feeling and sensitivity of the lure working. I've had a couple other cheaper shimanos that did the same. Haven't had the problem with their more expensive reels. Will probably go with another brand for cheaper reels now.

Shimano makes a good quality reel and they have for a long time. This is a mid to upper end reel and a great value for what you pay. Built to last a long time.

Great reel
This is a great reel for bass and inshore fishing. I used it first time on some saltwater flats and it performed beautifully. The new 2017 design looks very slick so I'm really happy with the look and performance. I spooled it up with some 20lb PowerPro braid so I think it should be a nice setup for me for a while. If you are wondering what is the difference between 2500 and 2500HG its the gear ratio. The HG model has a 6.2:1 gear ratio and is the normal 2500 has a 5.0:1 gear ratio. I prefer a higher gear ratio, but it depends on the type of fishing you are doing.
