Q: Can a patch or letter be ironed on?

I think both can be ironed on since the face of it really is burlap. Just be careful because the inside has laminate in the inside; might melt if the iron sits in one spot too long.

Q: Is the vinyl lining bonded to the burlap, or is it just held by the stitching?

it is bonded to the burlap. very easy to wipe out and keep clean. I love mine and use them all the time they are just the right size so you don't get overloaded with one bag and the handles are very comfy to the hand. have had them several months with no problems and lots of compliments.

Q: Do these fold down a little for bringing into a store? I'm torn between these and the nylon ones that go in a little bag

I love these bags; they are very sturdy and pretty sturdy. The bottom does fold much like a paper grocery bag, then you can fold the bag in half safely. It won’t fit in a purse but does get smaller.
