Catches rats!
I have used this to catch two rats that got inside our house on 2 separate occasions this year. It's easy to set after you get the hang of it. I don't worry about the foot plate. Just chuck a small handful of dog kibble or peanuts to the far end & they'll spring the trap gathering up the pieces. If you don't find yourself in a humane mood, it's also effective to use to drown a rodent in. It's sufficiently sturdy for big rats & definitely worth its cost. I don't know why we've been getting rats this year, but this helps me get rid of them so they aren't chewing things up, nesting, or breeding here. Decent quality product for a reasonable price. Would definitely recommend.

Works very very well
Bought the small trap to catch a rat BUT....turns out I had more than one rat. I saw a single rat running around under the bird feeder with the chipmunks in my yard. I decided it had to go so set this trap and caught it and set it free a couple miles away. Then set it again to see what happens....turns out I caught 4 rats so far and saw 2 more around the last rat trapped in the cage. I'm using peanut butter and beef scraps pushed way back so they need to stand on the trigger platform. I can't use black sunflower seeds or bird seed because I keep catching small mice, birds and chipmunks with that. Obviously a great trap. If it does not work for you it's user error.

Works well
A non-lethal trap that works well on rats. You may have to make some slight adjustments to get it to work as the rod may be bent.

Very compact, easy to use, and ULTRA sensitive!
I purchased this trap because my family and I breed rats and mice for pets and snake food, we have A LOT of escapees and we cannot catch them because they are either quick, not friendly, or both! I was more worried about capturing one of my hairless rats that had gotten out because the other two hairless rats she was house with was starting to grieve and when they grieve, they lose weight, and they will end up dying. I took a windmill cookie piece and coated it in peanut butter, stuck it on the foot plate inside the trap. I set the trap (which is ultra easy to do by the way). Needless to say, after I did this, miss hairless rat decides she wants to just reappear out of nowhere! I end up catching her fairly easy once I see her at this point because she is thirsty and hungry. Anyways, I end up setting the trap again for some mice that got loose. Mice, one of the lightest animals on the face of the earth, but so dang fast, can't be caught bare handed! Within 2 days, I was able to catch them! The trap is sensitive enough to capture a mouse that has the lightest touch and weights next to nothing. Whatever you want this trap for, as long as it is rat size or squirrel sized and under, you will catch it! Even if one tiny hair hits that plate, you got 'em! I was skeptical because of how cheaply made it looks in the photos...but don't ever let looks underestimate an item. It's made of a stainless steel I guess? I don't know but it does what I need it to do therefor I have NO complaints! I only wish the price was a little lower, but then again, I can't complain about that either because any cheaper and I probably would have gotten crap!

Actually friggen works!
Dear lord. The number of rat traps I’ve tried that either don’t work, or sometimes work (triggering with rain etc) has been frustrating. This is the first rat trap I’ve used that always works. You do however need to make sure that you put the food to the back of the little lever/food area so they step on the front and trigger it. I’d also recommend putting something sticky like jam or peanut butter there, and then a little cracker etc. Also put little bit of food going into the cage to entice them.My main reason for buying this was for a huge small cat sized rat, but it works very well on small rats as well. No other traps would work.Given the price and reliability of this trap, I’d highly recommend this product.

Traps won’t snap closed
The media could not be loaded. You can literally watch as I wait for the prairie dog to enter the trap, freely eat and dash back out. The sensitivity on these traps are inconsistent. The backyard trap will shut by wind blowing, whilst critters can stomp on in the front yard trap and walk back out.The peanut butter was licked clean from the pressure plate by the prairie dog, but it never closed it in.Not worth your money.

Got a chipmunk on day 1
This trap works great and was much less expensive than some of the other options out there. Use PB or something edible and sticky to hold the food on the plate, set it carefully and place it nearwhere your target has been. I caught a chipmunk and day 1. It's easy to open and set. I'm happy I didn't have to hurt the little fella either.

It works, but needs improvement
This trap does work for small animals such as mice or little red squirrels. However, there are flaws in the design. The bait-holder does not have raised sides, so sunflower seeds slide off its slope. There is no carrying handle, so you need to wear heavy gloves if an animal is inside and you are transporting it. If the cage happens to turn on its side with a hyperactive squirrel inside, the locking bar on the gate can slide up on its travel bars and allow the squirrel to escape. I solved that problem by putting some binder clips (the ones that hold a stack of papers together) on the travel bars on which the locking bar slides, in order to prevent the locking bar from coming up until I was ready to open the cage door. The trap arrived with the tripping mechanism not adjusted properly, but a little judicious bending of the trip wire and some tests of tripping it with a straightened coat hanger got that working okay. It came in a box with no shipping padding, which may have caused the trip wire to be maladjusted. This is pretty cheaply constructed, but it does work, and the price is right.
