This Book is a Treasure
This book was delivered with Amazon's usual promptness. It was wrapped in plastic and in pristine condition. The quality of the book itself is outstanding--the paper and color are high quality. The content is AMAZING. It's full of generously sized pictures of the most outstanding watercolors you may ever see! Mary Whyte not only has incredible technical skill as an artist, she also has the unique gift of being able to capture a person's spirit and put it on paper for all to appreciate. This book is a visual treasure, and the artist's narrative is beautifully written as well. This book won't languish in my bookcase for sure--I'll keep it within easy reach and viewing range. Absolutely worth the money!! JW

Mary Whyte: A National Treasure
There is nothing about any of her paintings or books that should be ignored. When you look at her paintings, it is as if you are reuniting with an old friend who is now her subject. Their likeness is the least of what she gives you in any painting. In showing her subjects in their work clothes or environment, she also seems to give you a glimpse into their personality and thoughts. Her discussions of painting are helpful and to the point, as well as inspiring. There is some overlap in paintings included in other books, but I wouldn't part with any of them!

Beautiful book
This is a wonderful book of Mary's paintings of working people in the south. Each painting captures a person or a few people doing a hard day's work and often at a job that is now disappearing. No one does watercolor portraiture better than Mary and the way she paints skin, wrinkles, shadows, and expressions is so convincing. This is about each person's story and their locale... this is not a "how to" book that demonstrates how to do each painting and what paint colors to use, etc. It is simply a book of gorgeous, thoughtful paintings to be enjoyed.

Gifted at writing as she is with water color painting.
My wife and I are Mary Whyte fans and Working South is a book that my wife had read at a friend's house and wanted me tobe able to read it and have to share with others. We are water color fans. Mary Whyte visited Jackson Hole to interview andphotograph a dear friend of ours for a future painting and book. We await that publication....in the meantime, enjoy her otherbooks that she has written and pictures of her paintings.

Get the real book
I got the Kindle version of this book. It's a gorgeous book but if I had it to do over again I'd get the paperback or real book instead of the Kindle. With an art book like this with all of its gorgeous illustrations I really wanted to see them printed, but I'm not sure which would give you more accurate color. Mary Whyte is a master painter and in any format it's worth it to buy the book.

Beautiful coffee table book
Over-sized book with some of Ms. Whyte's most beautiful work. It is just what the title suggests. As long as the buyer understands that it is a "picture book" and as long as you admire Ms. Whyte's style, you probably won't be disappointed. There is some written work scattered within but clearly the book is for browsing.

The book is a beautiful compliment to having seen the exhibit.
I had the opportunity to see "The Working South" art exhibit at a local fine art museum in my area. The exhibit alone was stunning. Mary Whyte captures the essences the of individuals she is painting with stunning precision and beauty. The book is a wonderful compliment to having seen the exhibit, if you have not seen the exhibit this book gives you amazing insight into the depth of study and conscious placed into this amazing body of work.
