Your first reference book on pumps
This 1632 page publication is loaded with useful information on every important facet of pump theory, performance, design, and application. Centrifugal (radial, mixed-flow, and axial flow impellers), positive displacement, solids handling, and jet pump types are covered. Special chapters are devoted to pump drives, seals, bearings, materials of construction, mechanical behavior, vibration, noise, troubleshooting, installation, operation and maintenance, intakes and suction piping, pumping systems and system characteristics, abnormal operation, waterhammer, and selecting and purchasing pumps. There is also a chapter covering pump services with sections for the main industry, utility and commercial areas of application such as power plants, water supply, petroleum, and chemicals to name a but few. There are over one hundred industry name contributors to this book. Dr. Paul Cooper, a principal author, has many pump technical papers to his name and is one of the preeminent pump engineers in the world. This handbook contains a wealth of valuable information, is very reasonably priced and is the first one I would recommend to anyone looking to buy a reference book on pumps.

Igor the Pump Guy Again
Please also see my review of the "Engineers Guide to Centrifugal Pumps" also by Igor Karassik. I first bought the Second Edition of the Pump Handbook many years ago (1985) thinking that it contained everything I would need to know. Looking back, I am embarrassed to think that new technologies would not impact the pump world; how wrong is that? Further, as luck would have it, I was wrestling with a problem related to rotodyanamics (Reed Critical Analysis of a line shaft pump). Add to that the fact that I had now been working with positive displacement pumps of all flavors and colors. The Fourth Edition address those exact same issues. And as a bonus, throws in a review of quite a comprehensive selection of different applications for a vast array of environmentally different service conditions (different industrial applications and environments). Then, if all else fails, this book is big and heavy enough to suffice as a non-concealed weapon in almost any circumstance.

Great book
As a power plant CRO this book is amazing. Not that I do it but you can build a pump from scratch with this book. Tons of calculatotions from efficient to flow to stress.

Great Resource, worth the investment.
This book has everything on centrifugal pumps. If you’re new to the pump industry or need a great reference for pump selection, this book is it.

Packed full of information
I needed both an overview and detailed information on certain aspects of pump behavior. This book provided both to me. It's very thick, but it has to be since it covers so much material.
