Sets very quickly, does the job. Use a wood hardener first on rotten wood for best results
I have a pine table outside. It was custom built some years ago, the top being 4 slats of 4"x2" pine. The weather has caused wet rot in two of the slats and rather than replace them entirely, I thought I'd try to fix them. I removed all rotten bits first then treated the affected timbers with Ronseal wood hardener. This turned the soft wood into something that felt really solid. The filler comes in a metal tin with a plastic rectangle which is used to mix in the small blob of hardener required with each batch of filler and to apply the filler to the timber. There's a separate sachet of gardener supplied below the plastic lid. You need something plastic to mix the filler. It sets very quickly. I was working on a hot day and it was barely workable after about 10 minutes, so only mix as all amount to start with to get an idea of how it works. I didn't use enough of the hardener in the first couple of batches and although they set, they're not like concrete. The rest of the filled areas are rock hard. I used an electric sander to smooth off and a quick coat of wood stain has turned the so called 'natural' pine ( in fact a rather garish creamy yellow) into something more acceptable. The end result isn't invisible, but I didn't expect it to be. It will add another few years life to a table which was looking almost beyond repair, so I'm very pleased. I have used it before to rebuild a wooden window frame partly destroyed by rot and results there were outstanding. It was barely noticeable after sanding, undercoat and painting.

Best wood filler I've ever used. For long lasting bomb proof repairs
I purchased this over 18 months ago and today I used it again, still as good as it was 18 months ago, amazing.I have just fitted a new lock to a wooden door and removed the old yale cylinder type lock. I was able to fill all the leftover holes and do a pretty neat job within a small amount of time. This is definitely the best wood filler I have used, I have tried cheap wood fillers but they don't compare to this beast.Pros:*Extremely strong*sand, pain and stainable*Good value for the quality*Excellent quality finishes*Dries quickly so you can get the job finished quicker (this is also a Con, see below)Cons:*Drys quick so you have to get it on quick (This is also a Pro, see above)*Need to mix two components together, this is the only way to get such a strong finishOverall an excellent product for professionals and DIY enthusiasts alike

Brilliant filler, even if expensive.
Brilliant filler. Having prepared the lower ends 2 rotting garage door frames properly, removing all the rotten wood then using wood hardener, I was keen to use a decent filler. Am fairly confident that this is going to be a permanent repair.Difficult to be sure about the proportions for mixing the filler with the catalyst. A 38mm length of hardener per 'golf ball sized' lump of filler is difficult to judge even if you have a golf ball to hand but it does not matter. A bit more hardener will do no harm and there is more than you need (at least with the 1kg tub) and using a bit less hardener than advised (which I think I did at least once) also made no difference. The smell reminded me of making a fibreglass canoe long, long ago.Built it up in layers with some cavities being almost 4 inches deep and left it proud of the surface. I would recommend not over-filling too much as this stuff is quite hard. I had overfilled a little too much as I was keen not to have to add in any skim layers. A Surform with a fresh blade was useless and course grain sandpaper was ok for later stages but not ideal for initial removal of the excess for which I found a course metal file ideal.Given it 4 stars rather than 5 because it is (WAS - and may be again) a bit overpriced (at £17.88), though is available a bit more cheaply elsewhere. Would however buy again at this price if I had to.5 Year Update (19/08/2019): Garage door posts still fine! One of the four developed a cracked area in the filler at a point where there had been a shallow defect in the wood (so thin layer of filler) at the edge of the main hole but the underlying wood was still good. Also reconstructed a rotten window frame 18 months ago and it remains perfect.About to buy more for another project.
