Game changer
These Stationery Island Chalk Pens are absolutely brilliant! I was a bit hesitant to switch from traditional chalk, but these pens have completely won me over. The white is incredibly vibrant and opaque, and it shows up beautifully on my chalkboard. The ink flows smoothly without any skipping or clumping, making it a joy to write with.I love that they're erasable, so I can easily update my chalkboard without any messy residue. They've also been a hit with my kids, who love using them to create colorful artwork on our windows. These chalk pens are versatile, easy to use, and produce stunning results. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a fun and mess-free way to add some creativity to their life!I use them on a clear plastic board that it stuck to my black fridge. super easy to use and clean.

Good chalk pen, can be used on real slate and plastic 'chalkboards'
After the mixed reviews for this product, with some people saying that the pen ruined their chalkboard because it wouldn't come off while others were raving about it, I wanted to chime in with my experience.First, the chalk pen does come off real slate. That had been my concern, so I tried it on a piece that I didn't care about ruining. I drew three lines - one with only one layer of the pen, one with two, and one with several layers to build up a good dense white. I wiped off sections of each line after 1 hour, 3 hours, and 3 days. The slate I'm using is roughly cut with all it's lovely natural texture, so I did have to get out an abrasive sponge to get the chalk out of every nook and cranny, but it did come off fully without much effort. I have no idea if slate from all regions has exactly the same qualities and level of porousness. The slate I'm using is Cumbrian, for the avoidance of doubt. You have to have quite a neat and steady hand to use this pen on the unrefined/unpolished slate, but I managed to get pretty good results. I've uploaded pictures of my finished signs on rough unpolished slate, smooth slate, and a plastic 'chalkboard' effect sign I bought on Amazon. The textured surface holds a really good dense white on only one application. The smoother surfaces, whilst easier to write on, take a bit more effort to build up a good solid white. If you have fine lines to draw, get them done early while the pen's nib is still relatively 'sharp' as it does start to become thicker after you've written a few things with it. That could be the surface I was writing on though... not sure!

In between
The GoodOnce you shake the pen and leave it upright for a few minutes, the pen works and writes beautifully on a blackboard. The Not So GoodIt doesn't last long. Mine lasted a few weeks and I only used it once a day to write a few words. It also doesn't rub off unless you use a wet rag/cloth.So, if you don't mind using a wet cloth to wipe it off and you don't care if if it only lasts a few weeks, then it is a good and cheap replacement for actual chalk. For me? I'll either be going back to chalk, or finding another brand to test.

Oddly really good
Why am I writing a review for a chalk pen?? I guess because it just works really well, and I was surprised how easy it is to write with this on small jar labels. Would highly recommend.

Doesn't work
Don't buy it doesn't work. I mean literally the thing had dried out! I tried it the day after delivery so not like it had been left out or anything. I couldn't be bothered to return it so no idea how they would be about that.
