It is wood MDF with plastic stairs - this really is a delightful dolls house the wall paper etc is well done and it easy to assemble - I advise assemble then give to the child! My granddaughter loves her house and plays with it often - I add furniture etc every birthday and Christmas

Would it be suitable for barbies?

Barbies are too big, but my kids still played with it with barbie dolls!

Theirs no back just open at the front. my daughter has had it for two years and still to this day plays with it
