The car battery system is 12V. 5V would require a much larger current draw to achieve the same wattage. I'll bet they are 12V, fed by battery power through a relay.

Q: 2004 jetta tdi will this fit my jetta? is it steel or ceramic and if steel do i have to have the ecu reflashed according to idparts it is required.

I know it fit my 2002 Mk4 1.9 L I4 TDI (diesel). Plugs appeared to be steel. No flashing of ECU was done. Straight swap. Works great so far, after clearing the ECL log, dowsing the dash light.
