good item fair quality .fair pricepersonally i would lubricate the steel cable .it comes with a slight anti rust coating which will need re greased if its going to last .greased up it should last a few years of sea/ marine use .i would like to add the end attached to the winch is looped round some holes so i placed a tie there for safety .the winch is strong enough to hold a 5 metre rib or lighter boat and 40 hp engine and wind it on the trailer .i recommend it for fibreglass boats in the 16 foot range . or lighter . for safety. re-grease the cable .and you should get a few years use out of the winch before considering buying a replacement or new spindle bolt .it is a fairly heavy part . and should be secured well .it is not recommended for towing as it could snap the steel cable .the cable length is 10 metres .so long enough to launch a boat with into a lake or harbour slipway ,then some to spare.not a light weight winch .3 bolts and lock nuts required for fixing to trailer. each purchased seperately .fixing bolts are around 8mm so 3 of 8mm bolts and lock nuts and washers are required for secure fixing.there are 5 holes on the back of the winch for fixing two at the top sides and 3 centrally spaced with slots etc ..

My partner wanted a winch or a winder for a washing line. There seemed to be just two choices: this Amtech winch at £16.90, or a much lighter clothes line winder also available on Amazon but costing almost twice as much at £29.95. Several reviewers of the latter winder said it was poorly designed and made. The top reviewer had found it necessary to make modifications to it. The Amtech specification shows that it can pull 1200 lb (550 kg) so it is much stronger and more robust than needed for a washing line. I had bought one to hoist a very heavy amateur radio aerial above a two storey house many years ago. The winch was strong, worked well and was as good as new after many years outdoors. On the face of it, no contest. I ordered one and it arrived next day thanks to Prime. The box it comes in states that it has a 3 year guarantee. At 3.5 kg it is heavy. It has five 10mm diameter mounting holes so needs some large diameter mounting screws and washers.The gears have 42 teeth and 12 teeth giving a gear ratio of 3.5 to 1, but the ratio of the winding arm length (187 mm) to the winding drum diameter (16 mm) provides a further 11.7 reduction making approximately 40 to 1 overall. So the force need to pull the line will be one fortieth of the unaided force at the expense of more winding than is ideal.The gear mechanism is zinc plated for corrosion resistance. The base plate is not so plated. It's not clear whether or not it has been treated to resist rust. After two years outdoors I have noticed a bit of rust on the cable so I sprayed it with XCP rust blocker.There is a cunning three position locking ratchet mechanism. In one position the line can be wound in with the ratchet automatically holding the line stopping it unwinding when you let go of the handle. The other end ratchet position does the opposite. With the ratchet in the third and middle position it is disengaged and you are free to wind the line in and out. The rubbing of the ratchet pawl on the gear would be expected to rub off any plating so I will spray it with a rust inhibitor. Amazon sells several suitable sprays such as: XCP rust blocker, Hammerite Waxoyl clear aerosol spray, WD-40, and Wurth Corrosion Protection Spray. The latter was recommended to me by a respected expert. The black plastic handle rotates smoothly on its pivot making it comfortable to wind.The illustration shows the winch set so that clockwise rotation of the handle pulls the cable in from left to right. The big 13 mm safety hook easily threads between the two bars so that clockwise handle rotation pulls the wire in from right to left. The makes mounting the winch convenient.It will be easy to replace the cable with washing line as the cable is fixed to the drum just by being threaded through it a few times.The base plate could be a bit longer to make access to the end mounting holes a bit easier without having to unwind the line or use a hexagonal headed screw or bolt with a spanner. The mounting holes are partially obscured by the axles which is a bit irritating because I found I needed to unwind the cable to bolt the winch down. What a shame they don’t make a lighter, cheaper, more optimally geared version for washing lines. Nevertheless it is such a good quality, robust item that it is very good value for money.The instructions come on two sides of A4 and are clear. I have now bought a third one to tension a zip wire cable. It does this job well too. The 4.8 mm cable is not strong enough for the zip line with a rider on it. I use the winch to tension the my 8 mm zip line cable then secure it then relax the winch cable.

Used to construct heavy duty washing line in coastal environment,overdoing things perhaps but this item has worked well for over 2 years, no sign of corrosion, at this price it is only a little more than a conventional washing line winder, this will last forever, just keep spring mechanism lightly greased

Wouldn't deliver for some reason got very confusing as they waffled on about courier not handling chemicals ???

It was very strong ,easy to use ,I bolted it to a wall to lift a heavy roof rubber roll up 2meters .It worked perfectly
