Easy to use and looks good
We used this stain on church benches we were refinishing. It was easy to use and we were able to apply and wipe off in the recommended 3 minutes even on the very large surface of the bench backs and seats. We also chose to gently buff the application to take off the excess and ensure it had spread evenly. It absorbed evenly and looked very nice when dry. As with many stains, there was an odor for about a week until the stain had completely cured. But that is gone now and the benches are in use in the house. We are complete novices at woodworking and the stain still worked well for us. So we would recommend it to anyone looking for an easy to use stain for their wood project.

Great one coat stain and finish
I use Rubio monocoat as a stain and finish for furniture I build. The price seems kind of high, but with the amount of time you save by only applying a single coat for stain and finish, it is a massive time saver.Pros: The instructions are clear and the the product is easy to use. The colors are accurate to the website color wheel (just make sure you select the right wood species.) The colors come out completely cohesive, even on splotchy prone species like pine.Cons: Cost. You will need the 350ML for a 4x8 table. This costs around 80, which seems expensive. But this replaces stain and varnish. SO the price is closer to transitional stains and finishes. But it saves you tons of times. I would happily pay a little more than have to do 1 coat of stain and 3 coats of varnish.Tips: Pay attention to the working time. You have to apply then remove the finish and buff. Don't wait more than 10-15 minutes to remove the excess, otherwise it gets harder and can lead to uneven areas and a waxy buildup. For complex parts with lots of nooks and valleys, I thin the rubio with mineral spirits and use a brush. This gets in those hard areas and gives you more time to remove excess.

Great product
I would highly recommend this item. I have been doing many of the improvements and renovations in my home since I bought it a few years ago in the kitchen has been an ongoing project. We ended up doing butcher block countertops because of cost and ease of installation. We left them unprotected for a while and definitely encountered food and water stains but with a light sanding it was back to normal. We wanted lasting protection though and I came across this product that seemed like the best solution over any alternatives. I bought it and it sat around for a long time before I finally got around to applying it today. I have learned a lot up until then and have learned things that I did incorrectly and cannot change but I hope that this product still holds up well. What I didn’t do: apply the product to every side of the butcher block. (I installed the countertops before I realize this)I know it is highly recommended to apply to all sides of your project or there is a chance of warping but I am hoping that we do not have this issue.Besides that, I love the color. I used the color pure just to enhance the color and grain of the butcher block. The first picture is the before and the second picture is the after.I watched numerous videos before applying it to ensure that I use the correct technique and then followed along with a video while I was applying it and it overall went pretty well. I did have to have my husband help me and besides a small spill (lol) we got it applied quickly and now will wait for it to fully cure!

Rubio monocoat is a quality product but is expensive
Quality product. Provides a great finish with a moderate amount of effort. Very expensive tho. The coverage entirely depends on the porosity of the wood you are finishing. Since I was using Western red cedar I used almost all of a 350ml can on the wood required for trim and casing of a single door opening.

Amazing finish! Will def be using again!
What an awesome product! Before I get into how I used Rubio Monocoat and the final outcome, let me tell you WHY I used it and WHAT it is. I’ve seen a bunch of professional and hobbyist woodworkers on Instagram and YouTube swear by this product to finish their tables. Basically it’s a 2 component finish (means there’s some mixing required) of hard wax and oil that’s zero VOC (if you don’t know what that is just think no toxic off gassing or harmful fumes) it seals the wood, protects against water (like water rings not a monsoon) and it’s super easy to touch up if the finish gets damaged. I chose this product for the simplicity of simply sanding my work piece up to 150 grit, applying Rubio Monocoat, and then buffing... that’s it.Here’s what I used it on: I made a live edge table for my wife and I. It’s a live edge slab of Black Mara wood from Sri Lanka; this wood falls under the category of “exotic hardwood." This is important to note because there’s an extra step involved when using Rubio Monocoat on exotics that I didn’t know about until I realized my mistake. When you using this product on domestics (walnut, cherry, maple, oak etc.) you just sand, apply and buff. With exotic woods, which tend to be more oily and interlocked woods, you need to use Rubio Monocoats wood cleaner before you buy OR just wipe down your work piece with acetone after you finish sanding and before you apply this oil. IF you don’t... you’ll like tend up with a splotchy finish that looks like crap and you’ll need to sand your wood back down to bare wood and start over.Another piece of advice, DO NOT sand higher than 120-150 grit. This will also leave you with some splotchy areas... and that was my other problem... I went up to 220 grit and it’s a no go.Last bit of advice: whether your working with domestic or exotic lumber, make sure you let the airborne dust in your shop settle overnight, then use a tack cloth to wipe off the surface dust, otherwise the oil will bond with the airborne dust particles as it settles on your workpiece and bond with it, leaving you with a rough feeling surface.Once I started over and did things right (sand up to 120 grit, wipe/clean with acetone, apply finish and buff) the final result was beautiful!!!! Will def be buying Rubio Monocoat again!!!!
