Q: Is this dishwasher safe?

It's safe and gets rid of the "brown stain". But last time I used the dishwasher the mesh filter had some residue of particulate dishwasher grime.

Q: Does the lid come off completely?

No. The lid flips up but is not removable. Overall, I find this tea maker very effective for leaf tea. I use quite a strong black tea and it does stain the inside. Soaking in a light bleach and rinsing well seems to remove most of the stain. I would be happy recommending this product

Q: Any good for ground coffee?

I haven't tried but I don't think it will work. The coffee will probably block the mesh and by the time the water drips down, it will be cold. Again, just a guess.
