Invaluable chess teaching tool; possible gateway enthusiast generator.
This Chessup electronic smart game board is a useful teaching instrument that helps people learn chess in a fun and dynamic way. I am a chess motivator and teacher for our private school’s chess club and have found that my students benefit from the visual light-up square features that the chessboard offers to beginners as well as intermediate players to be extremely useful and engaging. The only downside of this board that I can see is the inability to take back accidental error moves once the computer thinks a player has made a move, which is unfortunate if someone drops a piece by accident, which happens more often than not because the pieces are not much weighted and tend to be on the slippery side. If taking back moves without the Chessup app is a possibility then I do not know of it, and if that is the case then it is not yet self-intuitive (I legit could not fix the accidents that my students made, like castling while leading with the rook). In one instance my student reported that he had mistakenly put the King and Queen on the wrong squares and found this out because his AI opponent’s King was able to travel across the board. Apparently the game itself cannot tell which pieces are which; it only can detect if there is indeed a piece present on that square and keeps track of what that piece is supposed to be from the start of the game. Software updates and the ability to link up with popular chess websites like Lichess and Chess.com are a welcomed addition. Overall, I found the AI opponents and hints add both extra challenges and additional confidence to each game that typical over-the-board games lack, while still offering an in-person physical feel without the typical eye-strain from constantly staring at a monitor or tablet touch screen. With the visual hint assistance (Green moves for best moves, Blue for good moves, and Red for bad moves) to help people new to the game enjoy it where they would likely never even have tried in the first place, it is sure to paint a positive experience with the “wow-factor” that comes from the initial colorful visual appeal. This is a unique example of how new cutting edge technology can still be practical and can be used to heighten an old game’s overall experience. I am sure that we can all agree that such methods are needed to cultivate new ideas and bring about more awareness through exposure in order to improve the hobby.

Love this board !
This is a great product. The high quality pieces and board that lights up on each move (very cool), makes it worth it, but the fact that's is also a learning product where one player can play AI, or an adult can play a child (child can use hints to make it equal), are all great add-ons. Perfect board for any younger beginners that are interested in learning chess, or for advanced players looking for challenge. My son is 10, and this is perfect for us both. Five stars!

Stopped working the item after day 1.
Item stopped working after day 1. This is an expensive item. Due to an emergency I could not return in timely manner. When I contact Amazon and seller they both point at each other. Amazon rep promised me once with a full refund. But never got it. When I reached out to Amazon again they apologized on behalf of their rep. But no refund as the timeframe for return passed. They sure do red me to seller. Seller emailed and said it should be Amazon so basically I spent almost $400 for nothing. Do not buy this expensive chess board. Not worth of your time and money. DISAPPOINTED!!

Terrific Innovation in Computer Chess!
This board is just very easy to use. Getting hooked up to play online is simple, and opens many playing options. The board itself is extremely intuitive. The AI and the colored squres combine to create a fun game without ever needing to hookup anything. Just charge it up and play.I think this board is designed very well and it has a solid spot in the computer OTB chess world.

My grandsons love it!
It was an early Christmas gift, something these 2 boys could do together. I wasn’t sure about it, but they LOVED it! Picture is of them playing on their own as their mother fixes breakfast.

The product may arrive in a defective condition.
The prodcut arrived without any operating instructions. When you try to charge it, the red led light near the on/off button blinks and after quite a while stays lit. This - you have to guess -is supposed to indicate that the chess board is fully charged. Then the squares under the chess pieces on both sides of the board light up. When you start placing the pieces on their respective squares the lights of some squares switch off, of some others dim and of others stay on. There is no way of knowing whether the board has recognized the pieces. Tf one attempts to make the opening move, the square to which the piece is moved, may or may not light up. Then the board freezes completely. A reset - first placing all the pieces on the board and then turning the board on doesn't work. After varying my attempts without any success to get the board to work; I decided to return this product via Amazon returns.
