Underrated child's bike seat has great features not listed in product description, comes pre-assembled (mostly)
This seat is above what I expected, and the default product description just doesn't do it justice. I had previously tried a child seat from Bell, which required attaching to the seat post clamp with a bolt that was too large to fit. There was no adapter, so I had to return it. Everything was in pieces and it took me an hour to put it together and then take it back apart. This one was the complete opposite and so much better! Here are the features, and many of which aren't listed in the product description:- There are two main parts: the plastic seat and a steel rack, which you'll need to attach to your bike. Each comes pre-assembled!- The seat has a foam back-reset and a air-cushion seat padding, y-straps for the shoulders, and ankle straps. My 21 mo daughter was able to pull her feet out when she really wanted to, but they do keep her feet in most of the time. There's also the horizontal bar that swings up when you need to get your child in/out. The blue foot stirrups also adjust up/down. This was all together out of the box and adjusting does not need tools.- The steel rack attaches to your bike in three places: around each seat stay and around your seat post. You will need either a 10 mm wrench or a crescent wrench to tighten the nuts. These are also pre-assembled!- The seat attaches to the rack by sliding it on from the back. You then fold down a clamp and screw into place with a hand-tighten child-proof screw cap. It's the big orange cap between the child's legs. It works like a medicine bottle top (push down to turn). There's also a large plastic orange retainer pin that slides through the rack and seat once both are in place to prevent the seat from sliding back. That pin is held in place with a cotter pin. You can see the ring of that pin just peaking out under the seat in the product picture.- Last, there's an option head rest/extension that you can screw onto the back of the seat. It provides an extra ~8 in of head rest above the seat back and uses three screws to hold it in place. These are included. This took about 15 min to assemble and I really like that I can remove the seat if I want to ride around with just the rack on the bike. To do that you don't need tools. Just unscrew the safety cap and pull out the large plastic pin under the seat. The seat then slides off the rack.Once we assembled the seat, the three of us took a ride to the local park. Our daughter promptly had a mini-meltdown within 10 min at the park, but once she calmed down the rides there and back were great, she loved it! Toddler Tyrant strikes again!

nice seat. superb value. not perfect - very noisy when nobody is in the seat but i have solutions for that
i'd give it 4.5 stars but that's ok.the seat is a decent design. nice quality. velcro was placed haphazardly on the underside of the seat so it doesn't line up very well with the mating sides on the seat itself, but it still sticks. no biggie.i am riding a three speed Jamis Earth Cruiser with full fenders, a giant Cloud 9 seat and extended seat post. i have put a massive amount of miles on this bike over the past decade or so.the brackets fit fine but it took a bit of finagling to get it all to mount evenly, etc. i am not sure how well this would fit on a smaller bike with fenders and a lower seat height. i'm a giant dude with a giant bike and imo this bracket system barely fits. i had to remove my rear seat post-mounted reflector to make room. i'm pretty handy and this was not the easiest installation to get it right and even. could be the bike and all the stuff in the way, i know.fitment of the plastic seat to the bracket base is not tight. it's SAFE, but not tight. that means....A TON OF RATTLES WHEN NO CHILD IS IN THE SEAT. and i ride this bike a lot w/o my son so that is just unacceptable for me. so, i figured out the rattling points. they are:- the seat bottom on the brackets- the blue foot cups in footwells of the seat- the front of the bracket "tray" captured in the part of the seat with the red knobmy solutions for all of this were to place zip ties, one on each side, cinched down around part of the bracket and the seat underneath the gray cushion. that pulls the seat tight to the bracket. then i flush cut the zip tie ends after cinching hard, so they don't cut the cushion when you replace it. i had to remove the red cross key thing to do this but i was able to re-attach it once i had the zip ties tightened.i placed 1/4" foam seal tape on strategic points on the blue foot cups where they rub/tap the gray footwells of the seat. you'll see. i put the adhesive side on the blue foot cups so the foam will always be in contact with the gray plastic no matter where the blue cup is mounted.i placed folded paper towel pieces along the black bar that is captured by the front piece with the red knob then closed it and tightened the red knob.also, when baby isn't in there, i make it so the harness straps are running outside of the cross bar/grab bar and tighten them.i ride on some rough roads and have Vermin knobby tires and without baby, all of these mods have calmed down like 95% of the rattles. it's very tolerable now.my son likes the seat. there is no way i can get the spoke protector mounted but that is fine because his feet can't get to the spokes because of the seat height and fender.

Great seat - good built quality - clever design.
This is a really nice seat.In both the seat AND the installation hardware there are multiple redundancies for safety/security... it's a really well thought out design and fairly easy to install.TIP: The only part that might goof you up is that the big red button in the front, you push down and UNSCREW it to open that little compartment - in there is where you slip the seat onto the mountain rails. This is the only part I got confused on and had to look up - everything else was pretty much "guess and it works as guessed" during the install.NOTE: There is a great hard plastic spoke guard that goes over the back wheel so your kids legs cannot physically get near the spokes in the wheel (or their shoe laces for example) and in the pictures it shows thin zip-ties going through them to secure it to the seat post... I couldn't find any thin zip ties in the box so I wasn't able to install it. This was the only weird part.I would point out that the 'leg straps' do keep your kids feet in the foot wells which is why this wasn't a big deal. One thing I noticed that I wasn't crazy about, but not a big enough deal to deduct a star, is that the cross-bar that goes across their stomach/chest can unlatch and swing open -- which is super cool -- but the plastic tab that latches on the one side is actually kind of thin and if you kept latching/unlatching over and over again, I think this plastic tab might break off.We always just leave it closed and slip the baby down in from the top and it hasn't been an issue though, so no biggie.
