Seiko QXH107B Westminster/Whittington Dual Chime Wall Clock with Pendulum, Brown

This clock is well proportioned and pleasing to the eye and suits what I was trying to achieve i.e. to have a traditional timepiece/focal point in the sitting room that would be in keeping with my overall aim (together with other suitable furnishings) of achieving a slightly retro look to an otherwise somewhat bright and sharp modern house.The clock was well packaged/protected during transit and delivered promptly and in excellent condition/order. The chimes were found to be extremely easy to set up and are realistic and mellow. I have selected the 'Westminster' option and set the volume so as to be relatively low and unobtrusive. I have only just got the clock and so have no history of use but have no reason to believe given that it is a quartz clock and a 'Seiko' that it will be anything other than accurate and reliable over the long-term.

I bought this clock last May (2019) and as it was to replace a previous wall clock that we'd had for over 40 years I was afraid that it might not be of the same quality but I wasn't disappointed. It arrived well packaged and the instructions to change the volume, melody and whether you wanted it to chime all day - or during day time only - was easy to follow. It is well made - some parts are solid real wood and others laminated MDF board which is standard practice these days. It chimes every 15 minutes and strikes on the hour as well. I was concerned when it stopped chiming earlier this year but Jason of ESR CHESTER whom was the market place seller not only sent me a new one but he paid the postage, the return postage and even supplied the tape to secure the return cardboard box. I can't praise this seller enough for his customer service.

The dimensions shown in the description are incorrect - the given dimensions are those of the box it came in! The correct measurements are: 71.5cm x 30cm x 11.2cm. The clock itself is a nice looking clock, and chimes on all the quarter hours which is a feature I wanted. The chimes are pleasant enough sounding, although a little too slow for me. Perhaps I am being unfair here as I am comparing them to a previous clock which owned. One minor criticism - I feel that there is not enough contrast between the hour and the minute hands, but again, I might get used to that eventually. Setting the clock up is easy, albeit a little fiddly, but as you do that only once, that is not a big issue. The clock uses a C size battery (included) and is claimed to last for a year. Perhaps changing it when the clocks are put forward each year might be a good time to change the battery

This clock replaced a traditional Hermle mechanical movement wall clock of the same size and shape in a dark walnut case. The new Seiko clock keeps perfect time, I do not need to take a ladder to it once a week to wind it up, the electronic chimes are remarkably realistic. On the downside the style is too blingy, the face is too small and difficult to distinguish, it does not tick, and the wood is too light coloured. It does not have the same dignified stature of the original.A simple diagram showing how to access the controls from the back would have saved me some time.
