Even better than expected!
I have always wanted a kotatsu. There are not many options for kotatsu tables compatible with American voltage (only 2 on Amazon I could find). I took a chance on this one, and I am extremely happy with it. The wood is heavy and great quality. I love that the table height is adjustable. I love the white wood grain color. It was very easy to put together and packaged well, shipped in only a few days. And of course, the heated aspect is to die for. One of the best purchases I've ever made, and my cats love it too. :)

Exactly what I wanted
I don't usually bother with product reviews but I had to for this one. I've wanted a kotatsu since I first found out about them, and this one is super nice. I didn't want to bother with a converter for the plug, and this doesn't need one. I thought the table might be on the flimsy side, but it's actually really nice and sturdy and will work well and look good as a coffee table when the weather is warm. It definitely looks like real wood in a light oak shade instead of a fake woodgrain print. Since I'm taller I thought the table might be too short but it's the perfect height, and the lower part of the legs look like they remove in case you need the table to be shorter instead. The heater is quiet and cozy, and this works with any type of blanket - no need to buy a fancy expensive kotatsu blanket. The instructions are a little hard to read due to small/blurry print, but if you've ever assembled a piece of furniture before you can probably manage without them. It was also really well packaged so that nothing could shift around or get broken easily - plenty of foam and wrapping to protect corners. You could probably fit 4 people around the table if they sat cross-legged, perfect for 1-2 people who want to stretch out a bit more. Altogether, I am thrilled with this thing.

Product wonderful, once shipping issues were sorted
Having wanted a kotatsu for at least 20 years, this product is everything I wanted at a reasonable price. The material feels well crafted, and of good quality. I got the 59x33" model to accommodate the size of my family, and was very happy that the vendor offers this size because most kotatsu sold in the US are for 1-2 people. Construction was just a few steps, and very simple. I appreciated that the tools included were enough to put it together (a 2-pt screwdriver of the right size), but I tightened a bit more with a socket wrench for extra peace of mind.I did initially receive a damaged table, as many other reviewers have mentioned -- my table was shipped by Amazon, and though I don't know for sure, my suspicions are that the table was damaged (punctured through the center of the table, outer box and all) once out of BJdesign's hands, so I don't fault the seller. I contacted the seller and was directed toward Amazon, and Amazon made it right by issuing a replacement. Luckily the second delivery attempted resulted in a pristine table, and I am happily using my kotatsu now. I subtracted one star due to the overall experience and the extra time waiting for a replacement, but the product itself is great!

Expensive, but looks good.
It works! It's expensive! I took a big gamble buying something so expensive with no reviews and poor pictures. My intention in buying this was twofold: I wanted a kotatsu as the centerpiece for my living room where my friends could hang out and where I could chill on the ground. I also just wanted a good looking coffee table. I'll update this review in a few weeks when I've used it more regularly.First things first! The positives! It looks great. I was kind of surprised? The pictures aren't the greatest so I wasn't quite sure. I love the table height extenders because it goes from a nice kotatsu into a nice coffee table. This is very easy to build. The instructions... kind of sucked though? I felt like it assumes you either have knowledge on how to build furniture already or just have common sense. I do not have either. It took me a minute to figure it out what the instructions were trying to say but once I did, I realized I was just an idiot and it took less than 5 minutes to fully assemble. Now! To the not so good.Bottom side of the table top doesn't look the greatest. YOU WILL NOT see it normally, but I did not like seeing it first thing upon taking everything out.One of the leg bottoms were cracked! It's probably not a big issue, but it was a little concerning. On top of the cracked leg bottom, one of the leg bottoms were a little scuffed - like, it has small splinters on the bottom kind of scuffed. I'll find out how noticable it is when I move into an apartment without carpet. Right now? Don't notice it. Picture added.Overall, I think... This will have been a good investment? Even if I never use the kotatsu function like I plan, this is going to be a good looking coffee table at worst.I'll update this entire review in a few weeks after regular use. For now?If you want a 120v kotatsu that doubles as a coffee table, I think this might work out for you. I did not want to mess with a converter, so this was a blessing in that sense.

It’s become an essential furniture for us
The wife and I bought this over 2 years ago at this point and it’s become something I don’t think we could ever live without.Out of the winter season, it’s a comfy, compact table to keep in the living room where we can sit and eat from, but during the winter- that’s when it gets fun. Plug it in, and then it becomes an oasis to escape the cold from. The dial to control the heat is a welcome addition too, and it’s just so easy to melt in when it’s cold everywhere else in the house. The cats will love it too, all my cats love taking turns underneath it during the winter and sometimes during other seasons. Just be mindful if they’re cable biters, and if you can’t find them after having not seen them for a couple hours… check the kotatsu. They might be under there.
