Excellent book for young adults or for anyone who works with teens or is a parent of teens!
As a former teacher of middle and high school students and a parent who well remembers the anxiety and challenges that my daughter faced during her teen years, I found this book extremely informative and full of practical exercises to help teens better cope with the insecurities that are so plentiful in today’s society. Social media, peer pressure, physical changes and other external forces can all contribute in making a young adult doubt his or her own self-worth.In cases where these feelings lean toward the extreme the individual may very well resort to bullying others in order to make himself feel better and while a little teasing may be fine among friends, it is unfortunate that many cases of bullying result in not only verbal abuse, but on occasion physical abuse as well. I believe that this is particularly true in today’s society where it seems to be okay or even encouraged to mock or attack entire groups of people due to their religion, color, or sexual orientation. As far as the person who is the victim is concerned, even verbal abuse can cause a sensitive individual to resort to self-harm such as suicide, something that is a little too common among today’s youth. In this text the author proposes a variety of tools and techniques that can be utilized in order for young teens to cope. First and foremost, teens are encouraged to do a somewhat intense self-study of themselves as individuals—their likes, dislikes and passions. It appears that the author’s premise, and one which I agree with totally, is that in order to manage external challenges it is imperative to first understand yourself. I also found the topic on positive thinking and “pattern intercepts’ to be not only useful for teens but basically anyone who may be missing out on all of the good things life has to offer because of an attitude of negativity. I am now convinced that we do have the power to reverse this!I would highly recommend this book not only to young adults but also parents, teachers, school psychologists and others who are responsible for the education as well as the mental well-being of the young adults that they work with on a day-to-day basis.Frances Matone O'Rourke

Practical Guidance and Skills that will last a lifetime!
Derek has hit the key points right on the head! It's not easy to be a teen and never has been; the stakes seem even higher now with everything being so public due to social media. This book gives great pointers on boosting self-esteem (which leads to more self-confidence), finding your passion, changing your vibe (because you really do attract what you put out!) and so much more. As a certified life coach for teens, all these things are issues my clients and I work on and to have a resource where they can read it and then talk about application in sessions is a wonderful thing!

Excellent read for teens and parents alike!
I read the book on Kindle. After I read it, I had my 13 & 14 year old teenagers read it. Then we talked about it. They loved the direct and open approach to writing; along with the informative content. They felt the book gave them insight into how they can reflect on their teenage years and make it better for themselves. The author is concise; the writing intelligent. The information was just what my teens (and I) needed to know to survive this crazy world our teens are now living in. Great book. Highly recommend as a read for parents & teens! I plan on following the author’s lead, and taking one chapter at a time and focusing in on that w/ my kiddo’s each week, since they do not need to add more to their already overflowing workload. That’s what’s also nice about this book. It isn’t a workbook. It is written as a guide, 9 chapters in total ~ which can easily convert to one chapter a week for my teens! Thanks to the author for his insight, knowledge and experience.

I really enjoyed this book! It is so valuable to have a resource you can turn to when you witness your teen is going through challenges. Teenage years can be quite turbulent for teens and having a guide with lots of insights and practical exercises is very helpful in showing your teen how to navigate the natural challenges and overcome insecurities of this phase.

A Parent and Teens Must Read
I was fortunate enough to be given an advanced copy of Derek's book but this is my honest open.Upon reading Derek's book, he has an amazing ability to connect and understand with how kids think and feel. I also gave Derek's book to my young adult son and it also resonated with him on a much deeper level, where he is still finding his own way in his adult world.Derek has very special unique gifts and abilities, that shine through so easily, and now he is able to help so many young people with their lives. If you haven't gotten a copy of this book already, please do yourself and your child a favour a grab one today, your child will thank you!

Great for parents and teens alike
I read this book on my Kindle and must say it is a great resource for both parents and kids. Although my 13 and 11 year old aren't big readers, I am really hoping that I can get them to read a few sections as well themselves. Parents in today's crazy world need all the support and advice they can get on raising amazing kids into productive and healthy adults.

Excellent book!
Very well written book and much needed in today's society. Teens need all the help they can get to be happy and well adjusted adults; and a lot of this needs to come from their parents.
