I don't know what you mean by black toes. Think of them as mittens for your feet, the small toe goes over your big toe, the other 4 toes go in the larger toe.

No mention of washing instructions: Will they shrink if washed cold, but dry hot?

Yes wash with cold water and hang to dry.

Why are all Tabi (and 10-toe) socks made with toes straight across? The corner sticks out,way above my little toe.
