Detailed & tested review below. Kizer knows its knife enthusiast's.
Why did I buy this knife? If you want the quick explanation, Summary and specs at bottom.First off I am an avid knife/tool enthusiast. I have been for over 10 years easy. I have over 100 folding knives in my collections. I love to check out different blades that come out or classics. From good old Bucks, to Benchmade and Spydercos, to Kershaw's, to Strider custom knives. This Kizer Original (XL) caught my eye just like it's catching yours. A pretty knife and looks awesome, I had to check it out. The 154cm steel for the blade is great, the aluminum handle is great, the push button lock is great. Well I saw this Kizer XL aluminum handle and figured worth checking out. Kizer is known to make excellent knives. I have been hearing the newer models are coming out with even tighter tolerances. I've always liked the Kizer Original. Since I have large hands, 6 ft 1, 250 muscular build, the XL fits well. Fits perfectly in my hands.Push button lock. Kind of acts like a benchmade axis lock. Just as easy. So if you're curious, I would say it's worth checking out to see how the button lock functions. Mine acts very very smooth. The ceramic bearings inside are perfect. The retention of the blade keeps the blade closed but when it's time to flick it opens with an authoritative "klunk". It closes just as awesome as it opens, gravity and slides closed. Reminds me of my Spyderco Paramilitary 2.The handle material is made of aluminum, grippy enough with a unique matte grip. Blade steel is 154 cm, one of my favorites. An amazing steel. It's considered a top tier steel. Super Steel. Benchmade used and still uses it for many of its knives. I believe, in my experience, 154 cm has had edge roll resistance and has lasted longer before dulling (vs certain s30v blades). Buts that's a Benchmade Griptillian I'm talking about and the geometry of that blade was perfect. It's what made me respect 154cm more.It came frighteningly sharp. I lightly stropped it and oh boy it was sharp. It cuts through boxes with ease the thickness of the blade is perfect for those light to moderate tasks. The open and close action is a very fun. I drfinitely like to fidget with it.So basically if you're looking for and everyday carry knife, an EDC knife, this is a superb choice. Especially if you're looking at a knife that you don't want to baby too much. Higher and steals can chip or roll the edge or be extremely hardened to sharpen. This way you have a very good steal that has excellent edge retention and is easy enough to sharpen. If you don't mind the price point, it's worth the price.✓Specifications:The Blade Length: 3.27" or 8.3cmThe Overall Length: 7.48"The Blade Thickness: 0.11" .28cmand the Weight in around 2.82oz. or 80g.******Summary and My Opinion: I can definitely recommend this knife. It's materials are top grade. It's craftsmanship intolerances are excellent. The price point is perfect, as the knife feels and looks like knives two or three times it's price. It came very very sharp with a nice edge. It has a deep pocket clip. The grip of the handle is oddly satisfying and enough for me to get a good hold on it. The looks of the knife are very cool. It's a very badass looking knife. The push button design is what got me interested in it. As far as practicality, the knife is very light and unobtrusive in the pocket. I can see this knife lasting a very very long time. What can I say other than Kaiser seems to be stepping up its game even more. It is known as a knife company that makes excellent knives, but it keeps coming out with more and more homerun designs. I will add photos.Get yourself one and thank me later. I hope this helped. Great knife for a fair price!
Excellent little fidget knife that is awesome a great user knife. Kizer is consistently putting out well done 154cm so your getting great performance for your money. The heat treat is good so the steel sharpens very nicely and the edge retention is respectable. People consider 154cm a budget steel now days because it's avaliable on these China knives for 50-80 bucks but in all reality it wasn't all that long ago when 154cm was THE super steel and still to this day it's a very good performing steel. They have the heat treatment protocol down pat and are doing a good job putting out steel that doesn't have retained austinite issues (gummy feeling steel when sharpening and gummy floppy burrs) and they are running it on the knives I've poked (about 10 Kizer in 154cm) with my hrc tester between 60 and 61 and that's the perfect hardness for 154cm (it can be ran harder but a production company is better off running it a point or two softer than max hardness and keeping it consistent.) Kizer 154cm will consistently out cut China D2 knives by a rather large margin and believe it or not will give most s35vn that's done in China a run for its money in edge retention and it will sharpen nicer. For me I'm not a fidgeter, I'm a collector but I'm a collector that use my knives, I make a living with a knife in my hand and when I'm at home I'm out taking care of my property and animals on the homestead so I really put my knives to work and steel performance/Sharpening experience and comfort are all that matter to me. If the steel has good edge retention and toughness and sharpens and strops back nicely that's what matters first and foremost and the knife being comfortable in hand during use is the other must. Kizer has been doing great work over the last 3 years or so. Now where I never suggested Kizer or any other China knife company is when it comes to powder steels/premium steels, they just don't do that good a job with them. With Kizer if you get their 154cm, vg10, n690 then you are gonna get your money's worth and they perform well and the heat treatment is solid, if you get CPM steels from them then you aren't gonna be happy with the performance and the money you spend. I have some Kizer m390, 4v, 20cv, s35vn and rex45 and all 4 are just OK at best and honestly don't give much more performance than their 154cm does, it's because they run them soft, like the rex45 I tested from them it should be around 66rc and it was 60.5 and that's a joke and the s35vn at mid 58.x and m390 and 20cv both in the high 58. X and that's just flat unacceptable. So if you buy from them and your not buying a premium steel then you will be happy with the performance especially if it's 154cm. But if your buying a powder steel from them your likely gonna be disappointed. The only powder steel I've had from Kizer that I was impressed with the performance of was s90v on the feeweed they did a good job on that steel but that's the only powder steel they have done a good job on.They have the ingot steels they work with down pat but just like all China knife companies they haven't gotten the powder steels dialed in and they run them soft and that just kills the performance. Like the bestechman dundee in magnacut I bought a while back it poked 59.7rc, it might as well be 14c at that point because that's what it's gonna perform like, needless to say I returned it to Bhq. Anyhow if you are looking at this knife or any knife Kizer makes in 154cm you can be assured that the steel is gonna be done well and it will perform great for you. A secret with 154cm is do not take it to a high grit when sharpening, 600 being the max because it will get glassy on you at higher grits. Glassy slick edges cut poorly and perform poorly and 154cm gets glassy very quickly even at 1k grit it's starting to get slick. Keep it a lower more aggressive grit finish when sharpening and don't over strop it and it will perform excellent for you.

Awesome Budget Bugout
This knife is lightweight with snappy action, just like I like it. Because it does not have liners, I ordered the aluminum-handled version instead of the micarta. I've been very pleased with the texture of the handle and the grip I can get on the knife.I originally ordered the regular version, but I found it was a touch small in my hand. The XL is perfect. At 3.27" it avoids the "dead zone" of blade length between 3.01" and 3.2." IMO if you are going to go bigger than 3" (the legal limit in some places), then you need to exceed it by at least 1/4".The blade is very sharp with great cutting geometry. Some people like to compare the Kizer Drop Bear to the Bugout. IMO the Original/Original XL are much closer in overall shape to the Bugout (another liner-free knife).I've had no issues with the button lock - it has worked flawlessly. Almost all button-lock knives can be shaken open. I can do it with the Original XL, but it's difficult. This means the detent is stronger than most button locks. It also means that when you flick the thumb stud and overcome the detent, the blade rockets out. It snaps open and shut with a nice "ting," and is very fidget-friendly.I see the current price is $92. I am not surprised. It's a great knife. I got mine in 2024 on sale for $46 which was an INSANE value. I'm sure they will run sales again, but I doubt you'll find this knife below $75. There is only one knife under $75 that I like better than the Kizer Original XL: the Vosteed Raccoon Top Liner Lock. If you told me that for the rest of my life, the only knives I could own were the Kizer Original XL and the Vosteed Raccoon Top Liner Lock, I'd be tickled pink.
