Parents and teachers—These models are the perfect learning opportunity
If your child insisted on hearing The Very Hungry Caterpillar every night for years, here is a follow-up that leads to the study of the life cycle of butterflies and moths. Our preschool classes finished studying insects with the newly emerged butterflies being set loose on the first decent spring morning. About a week later I discovered these two sets of models. The children were as entranced with the models as they were with the live butterflies. The detail is amazing. Little eggs and tiny monarch caterpillars inhabit one of the leaves. Both the butterfly and the moth have incredible detail of their physical characteristics. The moth, when turned over, looks completely real. There is a cutout on the moth's cocoon that shows metamorphosis in action. The two sets show the similarities and differences between moths and butterflies. If you are a parent who recognizes when your child is ready to go beyond the surface to get into deeper learning, this is a chance to make that leap. If you are a teacher, this is the best set of its kind I have seen in years of teaching. I highly recommend this learning set. This is the best way to take a child's imagination from the page of a fiction book to a reality that can be touched and studied. This is a wonderful product.

Only as good as they have to be
Passable but not what they could be. The painting is pretty sloppy, especially for the larvae. Unfortunately standards for these kinds of figures have dropped over the last 20 years.

Quality models, but no explanation of moth versus butterfly cycles.
The life cycle pieces are of nice quality, but there is no paperwork to help a child know which are part of the moth cycle and which are part of the butterfly cycle. A small pamphlet of a company that would be great.
