New NICU RN MUST
So I’m starting my speciality in the NICU and this book is great at getting your feet wet with the terminology of babies. The explanations of the questions are really good as well.

I do not recommend this study guide
TL;DR: I do not recommend at all; this is not a reliable study tool for many reasons, including confusing wording and poorly-written questions.I would not recommend this book to anyone. I was so excited to receive it that I opened it and sat down to start the questions as soon as it arrived. I am currently only 43 questions in, answering the questions to the best of my ability, and then turning the page to read the correct answers and their rationale. I have found at least five discrepancies/errors already. For example, a question specifically tells you to exclude/ignore a certain point of the topic, only to then have that exact point be the correct answer (and the only logical potential answer given).Another question asks you to make a calculation about kcal in protein given to a baby in TPN. The answer rationale literally says the words “if we assume [the baby’s] weight to be…” and did NOT give the baby’s weight in the initial data included in the question, thus making the calculation impossible unless we GUESS the weight, which is not something we do often in the NICU.As another reviewer said, the rationale for each correct answer basically only states that this answer is correct, without giving much context as to why, and especially as to why the other answers are not correct.Example, a question asks about urine production in the fetus, but the answer rationale does not give any information on the actual correct amount of urine that a fetus should produce, meaning it only tells you the correct answer and does not actually teach anything. There is a question about omphalocele vs. gastroschisis where two of the three possible answers are worded differently, but mean the exact same thing. And, apparently, still only one of those is correct.Looking briefly ahead as I write this review, in the first 51 questions, two separate questions are repeated, one verbatim, and one reworded but with the same concept and answer.I will not be continuing to use this book as a study tool, which is a huge bummer and a waste of money. Unfortunately, I don’t trust the information in it, since it was clearly not edited or vetted by any dependable source.

Repetitive
I have used several other study methods when study for my RNC Exam including another study guide and the NANN module course. I bought this book to have more practice with questions, but was unimpressed as most of the questions were eerily similar to other study materials I have used. I did the first 175 questions, and had several instances where repeated questions came up, specifically with Hirschsprung’s disease and NEC. I personally wouldn’t recommend this book.

This book is terrible
Do not waste your money or time on this book.CONS:Terrible grammarMultiple questions repeated some with a different answerAnswers that are way to obvious it’s not really a learning toolVery odd wording of some questions and answersThe review of answer only tells you why that answer is correct and most basically just say that that’s the right answer it doesn’t delve deep into WHY. Does not give rational as to why the other answers are incorrect.PROSIt’s cheapI would definitely not base if you can pass the RNC-NIC exam based off how well you do with this book. It doesn’t seem approved or certified by any organization either. I really just seems like a bunch of people write this book in their basement.I would recommend the other study book, it’s more expensive but well worth it in my option. ISBN 9780323391290Certification and core review for neonatal Intensive care nursing. That book is approved by the American association of critical care nurses AND national association of neonatal nurses. If I hadn’t written all over this book I would definitely be retuning it.

400+ questions including repeat questions.
Very dissatisfied with this book. They promote 410+ questions, but there have been many repeated questions with the same answer options. At first I thought it was one mistake, but it is more than a few questions repeated. While some questions require NICU knowledge, a lot of very easy answer choices that any RN should know…not sure if this is how the exam will be, but I doubt it.

Many Fake Medical Study Guides - Here's What to Look For:
This is becoming a serious problem here, these "study guides" provide at best - no useful information, at worst - dangerous misinformation. Here's how to find the right medical textbooks/study guides:1) Does the author exist? If they have no credentials, no other books, no LinkedIn or other information - they are fake. For example, this author - doesn't exist.2) Does the book have any sources? No - don't buy it. It's fake.3) Is the book sold anywhere else? No? - probably fake.
