No. It is specifically made for Dell laptops.

Can you use only the top cover or do you need to use both pieces for the top to stay on?

They are two completely separate pieces and do not rely on on or the other to stay in place. Personally I LOVE having the bottom cover as it allows my Laptop to sit in a raised position to assist with cooling.
