They do a useful job but not without their flaws.
Updated - after leaving the review below, I have now upgraded to a new Mac. Happy to say there are no connection issues whatsoever anymore so my previous issues were down to my old Mac, not these enclosures which are very stable and reliable. They have also just released a new version which adds a 5th drive bay and a decent set of RAID options. The new version is approx twice the price but still represents excellent value for money. Aside from my connection issues which I now know were the fault of my old Mac, I stand by the rest of the review below…I’ve been using these for many years, in fact, I run four of them, fully loaded with SSDs (I’m a composer so am using lots of huge sample libraries). There is very little else in the market which approaches the convenience of these at a comparable price point. When they work, they work fine and you can easily just forget about them. However, I have a lot of trouble getting all four units to connect and mount reliably. In fact, I now have to power them on in a certain order, after my Mac has booted, in order for them all to connect properly. Otherwise, one of them will take ages to show up on the desktop, and when it eventually does, the drives all appear empty! And operate very slowly. This is quite frightening! But reboot them and everything shows up just fine.My other criticism is the fan. It’s incredibly noisy yet moves so little air as to be virtually pointless. The result is that with 4 SSDs in such close proximity in a tight closed space, things get pretty warm. That said, I’m still using the same SSD drives which I installed ten years ago and they’re all still in great shape. In summary, these are a good value and neat solution if like me, you need access to multiple SSDs and can’t afford the more expensive, larger solutions. The packaging they come in is ridiculously over the top and quite unnecessary. I wish they would update this product with an improved model to address these issues. I don’t know if anything better at this price point. So I would recommend them, with some caution.

Skip this in favour of something more reliable
So I've been using this with four 2TB SSD's in a RAID Z1 (aka RAID 5) for 15 months now via Proxmox.TL:DR Unfortunately I cannot recommend it for this use case as all 4 slots share the same SATA controller which is an unreliable bottleneck. Even ChatGPT said that this is a flaw and I should instead purchase a quality powered USB hub and 4 quality USB individual single slot docks as they would each have their own SATA controller. My Dell Optiplex 5080 Micro Form Factor thin client(which I got for free) I'm using as my server does not have enough SATA ports for these drives. Also the fan is super loud and performs horribly. If you need stone solid reliability, pick an option with stable power and each drive having it's own dedicated SATA controller. if you just need something clean, tidy and just want to be able to work on your drives by keeping this on your desk, I guess it would be ok then.

Would recommend this unit.
It’s so easy to use.I literally installed 1 drive. It showed up.I installed second drive it showed up as a different drive. 3 and 4 the same. Works with the Mac and tested it on friend’s windows machine.IT DID’NT LET US DOWN.Transferred easily with Apple Music and Apple TV.Installed new movies overnight.(68 movies and internet speed dependent)So shows all 4 drives individually across the network( set up but by the connection to the Mac)Accessed easily across the network, no glitches so far.I like it because it’s 1 unit, 1 connection, no trailing wires. No confusion, the fan can be switched on/ off manually. The only issue with this unit is it will hot swap it’s self with no problems . But Mac ‘s don’t like this. And throws a fit. It’s best to eject the drive on the MacThen swap it. Mac will detect the new drive.Windows machine didn’t have this problem. But to be honest I’ve had this problem with Mac’s and other drives. If your a Mac user you’ll already know this. I’d recommend this unit and it’s brilliant for media content.

OK but slow
Install and use is simple enough, however the throughput performance is very disappointing."Transfer speeds of up to 5Gbps with USB 3.0." - not even closeI've done multiple tests - copy/move on various disk and this device consistently only provides a max throughput of 32-38 MB/s. Even on SSDs.Tried both USB-C and USB-A and a multitude of different disks.Very disappointing. Tried difference cables (USB-A and USB-C), even USB-C on GFX card produced the same poor throughput performance.Comparable test with the same disk connected to the same PC USB port via a SATA to USB cable that gets 90-100 MB/s for the same test / file copy.
