t's become increasingly difficult to find a universal remote that allows for simple one-button control of multiple devices. In the past, you could simply select your TV brand from a booklet and input a code. Logitech's Harmony series used to dominate this field, but alternatives have been hard to come by since its discontinuation.I decided to try out the BESTJOY universal remote because I needed a single solution to control various media devices. In my setup, I have a Samsung TV, Samsung soundbar, Apple TV, and Fire TV. Since my Apple TV remote was broken, I urgently needed a replacement.Unboxing and Setup: Upon opening the box, I found the remote, USB charging block and cable, and instructions. Charging the remote was very convenient due to the magnetic circle at the base, reminiscent of Apple's MagSafe chargers. After charging, I downloaded the iClick app from the App Store, and connecting the remote to the app was straightforward. After creating an account, the app quickly detected the remote. Adding devices and creating activities was the next step.Adding mainstream infrared devices was simple, but Bluetooth setup, especially with my Fire TV, was a bit tricky. The app prompts you to take a picture of the default remote, then uses photo recognition to set up the device. Once customized, devices can be assigned to specific rooms in the remote's "home".Testing and Usage: Using the remote is relatively intuitive. The two buttons at the bottom serve as shortcuts to activities. Pressing them displays activities like "Watch TV" or "Watch Movies". Selecting an activity starts the relevant devices. From there, the remote buttons operate as programmed. Navigation between devices and activities is easy using the central ball.Conclusion: Overall, the BESTJOY universal remote serves as a great compromise from the old Harmony remotes. The setup is slightly more complicated, and usage isn't as traditional as other remotes, with a slight learning curve. Once everything is programmed and you grasp the basics of the central ball, using the remote becomes quite easy. It offers endless customization options and multiple device/activity choices. With infrared and Bluetooth capabilities, you should be able to control most home theater devices. While it also offers smart home device control, I didn't use it for this purpose. There are very few universal remotes these days with this level of control, so if you're looking for a replacement for your old Harmony remote, the BESTJOY is worth a shot.

The remote looks great, but not functional for me

Waiting to hear from Bestjoy. Purchased remote and as of 1/28/2025, the iCLICK app is not available on the Google Play Store. Might return if app isn't available soon.

We've been using a Logitech Harmony universal remote, and was excited to try this one out because it doesn't require a hub and it can replicate IR and RF signals.The software installation was a little tricky. The app wasn't available on the Android store. Found it elsewhere as an apkx file and then used another app to unpack it. Pairing the remote to the app was easy.Our entertainment center is relatively simple - it's an LG television, Denon receiver, and PS4. (And a subwoofer, but it's always on and we dont generally change its settings.) It was fairly easy to add the remotes for the TV and receiver. The scroll ball is used to switch between devices (left / right) and different button functionality (up / down). It works okay, but I kinda wish the operated via a wheel or two, with distinct clicks. It's too easy to scroll past what you want, or not scroll enough to change the options. And the ball is quite small. That aside, the button presses are responsive and feel good.Unfortunately, it doesn't look like my model supports Bluetooth, so I can't control the PS4 with it.Next I tried learning functions from remotes that we use to control our outdoor lighting. I thought the remotes were IR. Turns out they're RF. The spotlights' RF remote clicks were learned and work great. It's nice having the functionality that I use frequently on one remote instead of 3. That said, the universal remotes signal clearly isn't as powerful as the original remotes - I have to be fairly close to the devices to get a response.With difficulty, I taught the remote the RF signals for a projector that projects spinning rgb dots. Unfortunately, the learned commands don't work at all on the projector, and I'm not sure why. Maybe it's a rotating signal? Or a frequency that isn't supported?There's clearly a lot of power and functionality here, but the app experience is rough around the edges. Typos and bad translations, though it's usually clear what the instructions mean, and the images help. There are video resources as well.

Not worth it. It barely even works and I have to fight with it to get it to work. Dont waste your time.

Its design and features piqued my interest, prompting me to give it a try.And boy, am I glad I did!While grappling with its programming due to the somewhat unclear instructions translated from Chinese, after watching several instructional videos on the BESTJOY official website and YouTube and seeking assistance from online support within the app, I finally got the hang of it.What sets this remote apart is its ability to handle both IR and Bluetooth signals without requiring a hub. It seamlessly integrates with my Apple TV and Firestick 4K Max, allowing me to effortlessly create macros for tasks like powering on the TV, switching inputs, and toggling between Fire TV and Apple TV with a single click.Moreover, it boasts RF compatibility, enabling me to control various devices such as lights and vacuum cleaners.Navigating the remote at night is a breeze, thanks to its backlit keys and futuristic side lighting. Its design evokes imagery straight out of a sci-fi movie. Even the magnetic charging cable emits a mesmerizing blue glow.In summary, it's a well-conceived device.I wholeheartedly endorse it!
