The one I purchased is still intact and being played with some 2 years later.

Hello, No, this cannot go in the pool or water. The battery compartment is on the bottom of the submarine. Please keep in mind that this is NOT an R/C toy. The submarine only has buttons to press on for sound effects.

Q: is this a sturgeon class sub?

The SSN-774 on the conning tower is for the U.S.S. Virginia. So this is a Virginia class submarine.
