Great looking pen, writes well, but mine ended up leaking from the pen grip. Sadly returned.
Writes great, and yes it is fine, very nice fine. But.... it started leaking after about 3 weeks of use. Sending back to Amazon for a refund. They were quite good about it, no problems there. I recommend Lamy pens. But obviously if you are looking at this one, you wanted something unique. And I tell you, this is certainly unique, especially the nib design, its a very nice pen, writes very well, very smooth, and if you put the pen lid on the back, it adds a nice weight to it. Sometimes I have the lid on, sometimes off, if i want it to feel lighter. But its built very strong and using solid metal, with maybe a plastic coating on the barrel? rather than all plastic. so that makes it feel more expensive too. But the leak did let it down. It leaked from the joint in the pen grip, so not a cartidge/converter or nib problem I dont think. But maybe this is a one off, so im going to give it 4/5 stars, as if it hadnt been for the leak, then this would have been my favorite pen.It really draws attention, and lots of people in the office want to have a look at it, or remark that I have such a nice pen.

Current example is excellent, writing very smoothly
The first supplied example proved faulty and was replaced, this being perfect! There are two versions of the Jinhao 9009 fountain pen; one with a hooded Fine nib which was ordered and another with an open Medium nib. For most users, the open Medium nib will be the better choice as it is by far the easier to use and also capable of a smooth writing experience - similar nibs on other Jinhao models all perform well, one or two superbly. To accommodate the different nibs and associated feed, there are design changes to the relevant nib sections but the remainder of the pen is identical.A push-fit cap is standard, the top portion of which is fully gilded - overkill but acceptable and a good visual contrast to the dark reds and blacks of the barrel - which is fairly easily released one-handed. A pre-fitted screw-type filler adapter is standard although standard cartridges remain an option, sometimes convenient although relatively more costly over time. Bottled ink will be more economical long-term and there is a far greater choice of colours and brands than with cartridges. The nib in this instance is very nearly a true Fine and just that little smoother than a similar pen with a finer nib, although both are about as good as you can get for their effective nib grades. Generally, the finer the nib the trickier they are to use and gradings can be flexible, a bit lower in one instance and higher in another but with about a half-grade or more of variation in either direction. If this nib is representative of Jinhao's Fine grade of nibs, it comes very close to matching the performance of their Mediums and Broads which are among the better examples in a growing personal collection. For the price asked, the pen and its nib perform at a level to equal any offered by a major brand at several times its price. This is easily close to being the very best that Jinhao can produce and, for the small price paid, represents amazingly good value.

Jinhao 9009 fountain pen
Beautiful pen in every way. The finish is exquisite and I just can't understand how they can sell it at such an really low price! In the UK you couldn't get a pen like this for under 20 pounds. My only gripe is that the nib is a fine point and so doesn't flow on the page as well as I would like. But if you want a really attractive pen at a giveaway price, then get this one

Cheap pen with the looks and quality of an expensive special edition big brand pen.
This pen has a fine nib and, although my preference goes to big medium/broad nibs, I like writing with it.Filled with J. Herbin Rouge Opéra (most of the Herbins are very wet inks) and writing on cheap Aurora paper the pen has a nice wet flow. It never runs dry nor skips, but after a pause it writes a bit wetter. A lot of fountain pens have this, where the flow keeps up enough to write but cannot keep up the juicy wetness of the start. With fine nibs however, the variation of ink flow isn't very obvious in the written text so this isn't really an issue for me.The grip is a kind of metal, slim and smooth, but not shiny smooth. By this I mean that it's not polished to a mirror causing sweaty fingers and slips, but it's not rough either. This makes it very nice to hold. The shape of the pen is in good balance, not heavy. The shaft is a hard raisin, very shiny with a dark red colour and what looks like a thick layer of lacquer. The beauty of the pen stands out a lot more in real light than one would think from the pictures. One thing though I am not completely fan of, and that's the gold part in the cap. Not because of the quality (it's good, being of metal and not painted raisin) but in an era where less is more, for my taste, it wasn't necessary.

A Pen that Stands Out and Writes Well
This pen looks a bit different. There are a lot of fountain pens that look the same from the outside. Some fountain pens strongly resemble well known designs but this one has its own distinctive design. Ultimately it is a matter of personal preference whether anyone likes the exterior. The gold on the cap is probably a bit flashy for some tastes. The cap is a secure push fit on the barrel. The screw thread that gives access to the filler appears to be well made. The filler is a transparent piston type converter that can be removed to use ink cartridges. I gave the converter three pumps to fill it with Lamy black ink. As the converter is transparent it is easy to see how much ink is left. The nib is a hooded type but does not resemble the hooded nibs of some Parker pens but is more like some Sheaffer pens.Where the pen really stands out is in writing the nib just slips over the paper. It is relatively smooth even on rough paper. The performance on good quality paper like Rhodia is amazing
