I use these to light up the interior of my ‘76 Dodge Street Van! It’s wayyy groovy man. You’ll love it in your ‘02.

How does one power it? Must I have an electric cord dangling from some end point, else hire an electrician?

It has a small adapter the just plugs into the wall and connects to one end.

Can these be hardwired to be controlled by a wall switch? I need to be able to run power behind drywall and then into upper cabinets?

You could have a plug wired to be controlled via a light switch, but when you power it up it will flash once to let you know it’s on in a super bright white ~6000k. Then it will resume its last setting. So only if you plan on keeping the switch on all the time. Either use the button that is on the device or use the smart features.

can you control each diode individuality? so you can have three green then three red or every other color set to a specific color?

You can program segments for different color. You can make these really short but not that short.
