Q: What is the plate size? What is the max size of an item that can be used on this?

It’s 5.5” x 5.5”. I haven’t had the machine long (and got one that was a dud and still needs returned… so some of my tries were very frustrating.) I’m not sure how big you can go as far as height, but you do need to let the plastic heat up longer for for taller items. They say to go for about half the height of the object in drooping plastic before you lower the press. At some point, I assume the plastic bubble would break…I’ve also noticed that longer heat time/more droop than needed can lead to wrinkles in the cooled mold, so I’m still experimenting with its limits and haven’t done anything all the large yet. I have used items that are placed pretty close to the edge of the plastic. (I’d say within about 1/2”) You do need to leave some room for the mold to close around things, but it works to use most of the plate at least when using separate items spaced out. That being said I also think molds done in the center only are cleaner and I’m not sure how one large object would work. I have been using a tip to elevate fly objects on a couple Pennies to get better air flow/suction from the vacuum and that helps a lot with the smaller details. You’d have to experiment with a larger piece. The good thing is you can reheat a “bad” mold and try again! Just make sure the part that sticks out is positioned away from the heating element or it will burn.

Q: Can this be used to make chocolate molds? if so, what product would I use with this machine to make them?

You can 3D print the shape you want, and then use this machine to create a mold of it. Then pour the molten chocolate into the mold and wait for it to cool.
