Q: Can I use standard thread with this machine?

Yes...it will sew with regular polyester thread...but it will not be strong enough to wear/last very long.

Q: Are there any instructions written in plain understandable English? Was just informed that it's all in Chinese

The assembly instructions are in Chinese, but the operational manual is in English. The assembly just took common sense.

Q: The needle is not aligned with the hole and the needle is not bent so can someone help.

without looking at it directly all i could suggest is to see if the needle mounting ring for the needle can be rotated to align the needle to the hole

Yeah sort of, I found my issues were far too specific for it. There’s a great Facebook group called “Chinese shoe patcher” or something to that effect that was very helpful.
