all natural, big cherries
I am a fruitcake lover. The best fruitcake is my mother's recipe, of course, which I grew up with and looked forward to every holiday season. I got the recipe before she died, and I still make the fruitcake occasionally. However, it is a lot of work. Expensive ingredients. Getting harder to find candied cherries and pineapple these days. Then constantly monitoring and soaking the fruitcakes in rum and whisky for several months. You get wonderful fruit flavors by the six month mark, more mature spices and nutty flavors by 12 months. I have one fruitcake that I have been tending over ten years now, and the sugars from the evaporated rum have led to a nearly crystalline structure. So, frankly, when I don't have the time or patience to wait for six months and I have a craving for "fresh" fruitcake flavor, it is much, much easier to buy a fruitcake. This used to not be true, but now that we have the internet, it's easy enough to just buy one and like magic, the fruitcake is there the next day. Many fruitcakes are filled with artificial flavors and ingredients, but this one is all natural. The flavor is rich in allspice and cloves and other wonderful autumnal flavors. It is filled with walnut halves and whole cherries. If you hold a slice up to the light, you can see right through it in a translucent haze because the fruitcake is so packed full of fruit, with just barely enough batter to keep the ingredients together.Just the way I like it! Frankly, if you have made your own fruitcake, knowing the cost of the ingredients and the time and labor involved, this is a no-brainer! There's no way I could make my own fruitcake for the same price as buying one of these; and while it's not quite as delicious as my mother's recipe, it is far more than adequate to scratch the fruitcake itch!

Great, tastes like homemade
Tasted just like a homemade fruit cake. Loaded with fruit and nuts. Bought in December, 2024. I'd actually prefer a bit more cake and slightly less fruit. My purchase was fresh and only the excessive amount of fruit might be a sign that it was not a homemade dark fruit-cake. Most homemade cakes would save a few dollars and have a bit more cake in there.

Best commercial fruitcake on the market—hands down.
We buy this fruitcake every holiday season. It’s the absolute best on the market. The flavor is rich and it is absolutely full of fruit and nuts. There’s just enough batter to keep the structure of the cake. That’s how good fruitcake is supposed to be. The only downside is the price, but it’s the holidays so we splurge. Also, the ingredients are expensive on their own and it’s a labor-intensive process to make.

Taste like burnt cinnamon cardboard
There is nothing to like it’s dry as sawdust it doesn't contain fruit or taste fruity it supposed to have rum that is nowhere to be found in smell or taste.. it’s the complete opposite of how it’s describe. These Monks should be ashamed of committing a sin so close to Christmas selling this crap and not standing behind their product for it’s not eatable or enjoyable. And it 52 plus change.. I guess I can consider this a donation to the monastery because they don’t refund.. BUYER BEWARE. I filed a claim thru my card maybe they can get my money back.*****As I write this I’m in process of getting a refund from Amazon. So you can be refunded if you persist

Great old fashioned fruitcake
We love this fruitcake in our house. Christmas wouldn't be the same without it. It reminds me of the fruitcake my grandmother always had at her house at the holidays. The rum flavor really stands out and there are tons of fruit and nuts in it. The 3lbs cake is a great deal and will last for all of your holiday celebrations.

Delicious!
I have buying this for decades! It would not be Christmas if I did not have the Trappist Monastery Fruitcake. The monastery is only 30 miles from my home. The drive is through beautiful countryside but I don’t drive anymore. I am sure grateful it is available on Amazon.

Just OK
My grandmother used to make great fruitcake, dark & moist, so I tend to have a favorable view of fruitcake (despite having occasional negative encounters with dry, yellow versions). So this year I went online looking for the best fruitcake available, and since this Trappist version got so many good reviews, I ordered it - despite the high price. My reaction? Meh.Don't get me wrong, it's not bad. It's just not particularly good, either. In it's favor, it's dark, dense, and reasonably moist. And it has plenty of fruit & nuts. But I'm just not crazy about the flavor - which, of course, is a matter of personal taste. So now I'm stuck with almost three pounds of fruitcake that I really don't feel like finishing... For me, it's not good enough to justify the high calorie count. On the bright side, perhaps the money spent helped the monastery... I hope they enjoy my $36 more than I enjoyed their fruitcake.

Moist and loaded with fruit and nuts
Our favorite fruitcake. Dark, moist with mostly fruit and nuts bound with a bit of cake. Attractively studded with cherries and pecan halves. It's firm texture makes it easy to slice thinly with little breakage.
