It is a Socket 775 processor, so should work in your mobo, but it might not if your mobo has a higher frequency for the Front Side Bus. This has a 1066 MHz FSB. Best check on the website of the manufacturer to see if they list the Q6600 as compatible.

No. This is a 775 socket processor, and that is a P socket processor. Look at intel's ark for PGA478 as a processor socket under products formerly called penryn and see what you can get that is faster with more cache than the p8400.

Q: would it fit on dell inspiron 560

Sorry I didn't see this earlier. with the Dell Inspiron 560 you should be able to use any 775 socket processors you want. So yes the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 should work on you Inspiron 560. You well need to make sure you have the BIOS @ A06 or higher ( the bios version is important) the CPU well not be supported. I personal would buy the Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 it is better processor; the Q9650 operates at 95W were the Q6600 operates at 105W and you probably have a E7500 in your system that operates at 65W. Why is this important? Because your power supply is rated to manage the number of resources in your system ( i.e dvd-drive, HD, etc ). Hope this helps with your purchasing decision and the you received it in time to matter.
