It does cool down when the yellow light is steady to indicate ...
This little unit does charge my 36-volt golf cart, but wow does it get hot in charging mode. It does cool down when the yellow light is steady to indicate batteries are charged. I took the cover off when it was charging and the two capacitors in the left corner were too hot to touch (ouch!). These components are not heavy enough to handle the amperage the batteries are sucking in charge mode without overheating and I think this is why others have reported their units failing. Anyway, I really like the unit so I added a cooling fan and the unit is now running cooler. The fan is a small cooling fan from an old computer and powered by an old 5 volt power supply from my junk drawer. I experimented with different voltages and the 5 volt ran the quietest. Picture 1 shows the hot areas and the vent holes drilled in the cover. Every other top picket was removed from both sides and all top pickets on the hot end. Picture 2 shows the fan on the cover over the hot section. I used sticky putty to attach it and an old fan grill on top. Picture 3 shows the setup working on my old EZ-GO cart. I've only been using this unit for a month now and I think these old batteries (8 years or so old) are improving. After a short run and sitting for a day they all are at 6.3 volts and I think a couple were at 6.2 when I started. I will update this later in the year if it's still working.JUNE 7,2020 UPDATEIt's still working after 3+ years. I finally replaced the batteries a couple months ago, but feel I got 2 or 3 extra good years out of the old ones before the plates started crumbling. The unit takes a couple days to fully charge the batteries so I'm now using the regular charger first, then the battery saver unit the following day when the cart is idle. I'm still very satisfied with this purchase.

I was skeptical, but it really did work
We had a deal for an EZ Go golf cart kind of drop in our lap that was too good to pass up. Not our first. We've owned the cart this replaced for 20 years. Any cart owner will tell you that batteries are the #1 issue and cost item. Usually somewhere around $600 to $1200 to replace all of them, depending on brand and configuration. Sure enough, the batteries in this new cart were weak, Wouldn't go more than a few hundred feet after charging all night. Tried over and over to get them to charge and hold. So we were faced with either destroying the resale of our old cart by taking its newish bateries for the new cart. Or spending big $$ to replace the weak batteries with new ones. My brother suggested that I look into 'de-sulfators', which led me to this one. Did a little research, factored in the 'snake oil' comments. For the price, I figured why not? Not much to lose.I'll just say, it has worked FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC. I'm not exaggerating. This cart will go all day now with little fade. The only change was using this charger. Now, I will say that we heeded the advice from everyone saying that you have to leave it on as long as you can, initially, before you will see any results. That's not a problem for us as the cart is at our lakehouse. So I charged it with the regular charger overnight and then plugged this thing in right before we left. Didn't return for a few weeks. I speculate that makes the difference between positive and negative reviews. This is our usual pattern.Saved us a lot of money.

Hope it works
Only time will tell if this was a good buy and if it works. I have had it over two years and so far my golf cart batteries are fine. Last time I used a product called battery equalizer or something and my batteries lasted five years. But good service, price and as I said it is installed and working.

Easy to use. Very simple and convenient
I am new to owing my 36 volt EZGO golf cart and new to maintaining batteries. I have an older, heavier charger and frankly it was awkward to haul it in and out of the house and I didn't trust my rain proofing attempts. And I don't use the cart a lot so a quick full charge is not a priority at this time. That said it seems to have performed as promised and has greatly added convenience. I used the lugs after a couple of weeks using the alligator clips and will see about mounting it inside more permanently. I hope it will perform well in our Canadian winter this year as I plan to keep the cart at home for occasional use, but mostly will be storing it outside. I'll let you know. So far; no complaints.

Onboard Electric bike charger / conditioner / desulfate
Purchased this charger / conditioner specifically for my 36V SLA battery packs on my electric bike. Bike is my daily commuter and had been only charging at home. This charger is small and light and fits in my controller bag on the bike and allows me to charge the batteries up at work as well as at home.I have noticed a significant improvement in my SLA battery packs. I am now getting a few more miles per charge out of them and better high current delivery on inclines. My batteries are at least four years old as of the date of this review and were not new to me to start with. They were salvaged from a UPS system in a computer data center.I would have to say this charger is well worth every penny, a quality built product and still less expensive than other chargers that HAVE a proper conditioning / desulfate cycle.UPDATE 2011-07-28: Still going strong. Rides with me on my Ebike/electric bike in a handle bar bag along with motor controller to charge at work and at home. Does not get hot while power charging two 36V 7ah battery packs (2x3x12Vx7ah) SLA's are REALLY old now and still pushing me 11 miles each way and up one long hill in each direction. I still highly recommend this charger.
